Day two

Our first "awake day". We spent it at Versailles (here we are in the appropriately named "Queen's garden", followed by a visit to the Notre Dame Cathedrale. Could there be a better lunch than a baguette and cheese with wine? I think not. Wine is ridiculously cheap here, but a coke will set you back six bucks. Dinner was steak tartare on a sidewalk patio.

The queen's garden is fabulous. Isn't steak tartare almost raw steak? You guys look like you're having fun. Are you going to Rome to see the Spanish steps? The Wine is cheap the Coke is expensive. How will we get you back to Montreal now that you've seen Paris? Ed

oh, what a shame, you'll have to forego the ever so healthy Coke and make do with horrible wine! The sacrifices you make...
I hope you enjoyed Versailles; can't imagine you not liking Notre Dame, and keep having a great time!

  7. The garden has never had better-looking queens. You know, I had that same lunch on a hike in the mountains once. It does have universal charm. But to be in the sun in Paris! Thanks for taking us along.

  8. You actually have a sunny day! I'm told that's rare in Paris.

  9. I've said before: a picture of you is like looking at a pic of R and I. The height ratio.

  10. What? It's not raining in Paris? C'est une miracle n'est ce pas?

Finish off that baguette lunch with creme de glace at Berthillon. They have 3 locations but my fave is at 31, Rue St Louis en l'ile de la cite.

  11. Hehehehe....Queens. And what a perfect excuse for drinking wine on your entire holiday instead of Coke. Keep a close eye on those Euros. They're like gold!

  12. Definitely, a beautiful garden. It looks like you are enjoying a sunny day. We unfortunately, didn't get to Versailles but enjoyed Notre Dame Cathedral. The wine and cheese sounds wonderful. Do they still offer Croque Madam or Croque Monsieur sandwichs for the breakfast crowd? ( the difference is there is an egg on the "Madam" sandwich. ) ;-)

I'm so happy for you two, yet I am so completely and utterly jealous, I can't hardly stand it!!! :)

Enjoy every single second of it and I want details, details, details when you get home!

Wine is better for you than coke!

  16. Ridiculously cheap wine. Better I'm not there, I wouldn't remember a thing about the trip.

I'm so glad I weaned myself off soft drinks. I do love many French and Italian wines so I think I'd have a very good time there.

Despite the fact that I have never been overseas, there's something about enjoying a simple lunch and dinner with such beautiful and culturally-steep surroundings and architecture.

I still find it so odd to see the gardens with such short trees. When I lived there they were all mature and towering. I'm very glad you had a chance to see Versailles.
