A last birthday nod

We had a lovely time. We (Serge and I and Dan) went out for tapas last night and stuffed ourselves full of foie gras, ceviche, steak and tuna tartare, smoked crab and avocado salad and more.

This is our favorite style of eating - sharing a dozen appetizers. Since we have all worked in the food biz, we were constantly discussing the merits and the detriments of each item.

I thought it was genius to put hot candied cranberries on the foie gras. We didn't think about how the animal had to suffer to get its liver so big, we just enjoyed it.

I'm glad somebody likes goose livers. The birthday boy looks very happy. He does not look 40, I would say maybe 30. Serge, all your blogging friends wish we were there with you. We would listen to you guys far into the night. That is one hot shirt. (The stud in it isn't bad either.)

  5. Yum you are making me drool at the mention of steak and tuna tartare. Never thought I'd like raw meat, but I do.

    Serge looks so cute :-)

I love sharing appys too, although I prefer mine cooked. The only raw food I can handle is vegetables. Call me crazy...

  10. In re being a non vegetarian: I have finally decided that it is incumbent upon me to celebrate the animal side of my being.
I salve my pangs of discomfort by supporting humane treatment of animals.
Friendly Accusation Time: You get off to displaying your stud muffin to us forlorn singles, don't you?
    (Just Kidding).
Thanks for reminding me to enjoy the journey...

Happy happy birthday to Serge! I'm glad you guys enjoyed a lovely evening, the food sounds interesting and lovely. He is so damn cute, with his big open smile. I love to share appys too. I think 40 is a nice number, I am not dreading it, but find it interesting to be so close to arriving in a place I mistakenly thought was for "old" people. haha. People seem to age so beautifully nowadays, perspective being everything. Devo

i love tapas. the problem is there aren't many spanish resturants (or people) here, which is why the few that we have are bloody expensive...
