It's a boy!

For those of you on Facebook, this is already old news, but look how cute our new addition to the family is. Georgie was amongst a great many dogs at the municipal pound yesterday. When we left the house, I said, "We're just looking, we're not going to get a dog today." This is like sticking your tongue out at the Universe and saying, "I dare ya." Thank god they give you a leash when you adopt since we had left ours at home. He's a year old, fixed and nearly housetrained. He has only pooed while on a walk on the leash so far, so that's good. He tried to pee on the bathroom floor, but I didn't scold him, after all, Serge was peeing at that moment right next to him, albeit into the toilet. He probably thought that was the pee pee room, which makes him a smart doggie.

He slept with us all night in the bed. My biggest concern was if he would whine at night and keep me up. He didn't! He howl barks when he really really really wants food or hears the leash jangle. It's so cute I can barely stand it. I'm sure at some point this week I'll take a video to force upon you guys. He's exactly half the size of Sara, weighing 33 pounds. I had a few emotional ambushes pulling out all of Sara's old things but I held it together. I'm looking forward to many years of the love monster Georgie.

  1. He's a beagle! Or at least a mix. Adorable! Congratulations!

  2. Since FB is now firewalled at work, VUBOQ was kind enough to send me a pic last night. I love hound faces, and that one's got a really intelligent look - the kind that can figure out how to get into all sorts of forbidden places. I predict trouble. :-)

  4. OH, I love Georgie!!
I was on the floor when you stated that you told yourselves that you were only going to the rescue center "to look". We told ourselves that back in 1974 and ended up spending our food money for the week to rescue our first dog and buy needed supplies. We made do food-wise with what we had, and we were never sorry we did.
I also giggled at Georgie howling. In our new neighborhood our princess (a schnoodle) has a new bf whose name is Maxwell and who is a beagle. She's learned to speak "beagle" now whenever he goes by the house. The two baying at each other gives me the giggles. I imagine her saying all the Mae West lines to lure him in.
Best wishes to you and the new addition to your family!

I'm so happy for you two! I'm guessing lil Georgie was pretty happy to be sleeping with you guys last night, now that he's part of your pack!

  11. Georgie looks like a beagle mix. Congrats on the new dog.

I had to laugh at the pee room thing though.

I have a cat who is a bathroom hound too.

  13. I swear, I need a trip out to see you....well, to see Georgie...so I can kiss him right on the top of his head! As for the pee pee room, Mason is obsessed with it too....he stands right next to me when I take a leak. I think he's into that sort of thing..... I'm very happy for you guys.

  16. Yep, I agree with David -- Still adorable no matter the format.

I had been thinking of a beagle (mix) as a possibility in the far future (if I don't go the cat route). I'll be interested to see the type of dog he turns out to be.

    Congrats again!

    He's so cute!

Your adoption sounds way easier then what I had to go through in VA. Before you can bring the doggie home, they conduct a home visit and must interview all house residents human and animal. If you pass and get to take home your new family member, they still require a post adoption home visit within 2 weeks before the adoption becomes final.

    Good luck!

  20. He's so cute I can't stand it. I love that little guy already, and I know there will be stories galore. Bugler was our beagle (do you remember him?), and man, he was an escape artist extraordinaire.

I can't wait to meet him!

  33. welcome to the beagle club :)

Our beagle Lucy is just the most gorgeous and loving dog.

Beagle's are really stubborn dogs and one of the most given up dogs because they are real pack animals.

The good news are they are very easy to train, all you need to know is food is the key to everything, They are so motivated by food you can teach them almost anything with food.
