Road trip pics

The ride was long. 2500 kilometers (1600 miles) total. The first sunrise of the trip - Grand Falls New Brunswick.

It rained a lot. For the first three days we didn't see the sun. We did see the world's longest covered bridge though.

And the world's largest axe.

This church in Saint John reminded me of "Let's Make a Deal".

A view from the 18th century tower in Saint John constructed to protect against an American invasion.

Despite the rain, we managed to squeeze in 5 hikes.

The geese flying above a foggy salt marsh on the Bay of Fundy.

The Hopewell Rocks at low tide. This Easter Islandesque scene is created by the enormous tides. All of the green at the bottom of the rocks is seaweed. The tides vary some 42 feet every day.

When it goes out, vast mudflats are exposed. Serge went to investigate the mud.

We ate like kings. Crab, lobster and scallops were consumed each day. Spouse ate every bite of that plate.

Finally the last day we saw some sun and drove up the Acadian coast. Here, a two kilometer boardwalk straddles the beach and saltmarsh.

The water temp was swimmable. We just waded a bit though.

The flags of New Brunswick, Canada and Acadia.

We saw lots of lighthouses.

And an obligatory vacation sunset.

Tomorrow, a couple videos. Join us as we cross the world's longest covered bridge and as we prepare to view the Moncton tidal bore. No, we are not in our 70's. Oh and all the pictures are clickable for screen filling versions.

The Indiana county of Parke has the most covered bridges, 35 I think. Crazy people try to burn them down and have been succesful. There were over 40 of them. Anyway, the pictures are beautiful. Can't wait for the videos. Welcome home.

You are so cute, with your descriptions and commentary.

I think I've read about that tide place somewhere, maybe National Geographic?

Cool pics! Thanks for sharing. The views are great despite the weather. Spouse's plate looks fantastic. (Of course, Spouse looks... oh, well... **grin**) btw, nice pic of you, too. I hope you got one of the two of you together.

Could not help recall Curtis's post about the ball of twine and the statues of corn when I saw your pics of the ax and the bridge.

Seems like you had a great trip. Look forward to the vids. welcome back.

Now that you've been where I just was, I feel closer to you! Wasn't Saint John amazing? I should have given you Colleen's number, she is the BEST tour guide! We missed the Hartland Bridge and Buctouche this time and didn't even KNOW about the giant axe! Next time though!

Can't wait for the videos!

You certainly have a talent in photography. Those are all amazing.

Did you get to reinact the scene from the Bridges of Madison County where Clint Eastwood first meets Meryl Streep when picking wildflowers by the side of the bridge?

No? Ok.

Just a thought.

Stunning photos! Are you sure you didn't just scan in some postcards?

You really are a skilled photographer.

Beautiful. I've never been to the East Coast - may have to make the trek soon.

As for the church doors, I half expected to see dancing popes leap from the doorways.

Spouse looks as cute as he did in that Hong Kong hotel room, and that was Way cute.
I'd feed him seafood all the time if that's what it does.
You look like you come alive in the woods. If it makes you both look that good, you should get a cabin in the woods.

I am no structural engineer, but has been looked at that covered bridge recently? It seems a wee bit, um, rustic?

Glad you and Spouse had fun! We missed you, though.

1,600 miles is a hell of a long drive. but c'mon. the world's largest axe would've made it totally worth it.

i love the doors, as well. and your eye for them.

my mouth waters at all that seafood.

Welcome back!

That is a beautiful sunrise, but it's the world's largest axe that has my interest piqued (I'm a freak for stuff like that).

Looking forward to the videos.
