Wee wad in the panties

I've been quietly following the progress of the "Reuniting American Families Act" which is a kind of immigration reform making it easier to sponsor a foreign family member in the US. There are two versions right now being worked on. The one that I'm hopeful about is the one that would recognize same sex spouses for immigration purposes. Like I mentioned last time when we traveled, we can not even approach the immigration officer at the airport together because even though we're married (and been together over 15 years), in the fed's eyes, we are nothing more than acquaintances. I'm not saying that I want to move back to the states, but one would always like the option, no? There's no question in my mind now which country affords more freedom, it's Canada. Still, I want my birth nation to get with the program and I hope that these seeds of change really do grow into something.

The thing that has me hot under the collar is that the Catholic church is once again exerting its power in the political realm and is trying to kill the version of the bill that would help people like Serge and I. Actually, Serge and I don't need any help. This person certainly does. Let's deport the kids' mommy because she's not really married, the dirty lesbian. That's a whole lotta American dream going on there. I'm not America bashing except that I sorta am. What kind of society supports what's happening to Shirley Tan? On the other hand, there is still hope. Just look at New Hampshire.

On the home front things are good. It's our last workday and then vacation, baby, vacation. We still haven't packed but we've got all weekend for that. We leave pre-dawn Monday for a whirlwind tour of New York and then cruise to the Bahamas with the in-laws. I'm so excited I could spit.

NYC! Are you going to meet up with some bloggers?

How long is the cruise for? Do you hang out in the islands for a while as well, or are you staying on the boat?

You've got a busy June, my friend.

On the other hand, Customs & Immigration can never seem to be consistent where David & I are concerned. When we've filled out separate forms because the gov't doesn't recognize us as a family, we've been told that we should have just done one form. I'm sure, though, that if we did just one form they'd tell us the opposite.

The U.S. deserves criticism when it fails to guarantee basic equality or allows religious zealots to impose their beliefs on the law.

Enjoy the trip! I'm focusing on that because I don't want to get going on the Catholic Church which I feel is one of the cruelest and most hypocritical institutions on the planet. Therefore, have a great time in my home megalopoulos and in the Bahamas.

We're happy about our NH victory. Just Rhode Island and all of New England would be gay friendly! It's a long road but one worth fighting, especially after our California debacle.

I'm not too familiar with Reuniting act you mention; I'll have to research.

As for your vacation, enjoy! And no spitting!

Me, I'm going to try to research the origin of the spitting expression. I believe it began with "so angry I could spit" or "spitting mad" which probably refers to an animal species (cats spit when angry, for instance). Wouldn't it be weird if people spat whenever they felt an intense emotion? Anyway, have a grrrrreat time!

Don't get me started on this repressive, backwards country I live in!!! Although NH was definitely an eyebrow raiser being that it's historically been a "Red" state in a sea of New England "Blue". People always seem surprised by Iowa but Iowa has a long history of being rather progressive, believe it or not. Sadly, my beautiful state of Blohio will probably rank somewhere around gawdforsaken Kansas when it comes to lettin' the gays get hitched. But, personally, this state by state crap is meaningless waste of time because until we are recognized at a federal level, we will NOT be equal to any other straight married couples.

I can live without the Bahamas but oh, I miss New York!!!
