This n that

The big freeze is here. We'll be below zero F for several days now. In anticipation, I went out to find a better jacket for myself. My leather/wool one just doesn't cut it on days like these so I went downtown to the spookily quiet underground shopping malls to find one. I had seen one at the Gap in Vancouver that I liked so I went there first. "We are all out of winter jackets," the salesman informed me, "We have the spring collection now." I thought this was retarded since winter lasts until April up here. No matter though, I ended up finding a nifty snowboarding jacket at Winners. Winners is like Ross or Marshall's in the states.

In other news, I got a call from the government in response to the job I applied for in July. Yes, as in six months ago. I'm having some kind of interview over the phone tomorrow. It's a psychological test as well. Today, I'm going to review everything about the department I applied to work in so that I can sound knowledgeable and professional. I'd better review what I put on my resume as well so I don't screw up. I would really like this position so fingers crossed everyone!

Here's what I want to know: who signed me up for these uber-conservative mailing lists? So lame. Every headline is just oozing condescension on anything liberal. I'm not a big fan of Daily Kos or the Huffington Post because there is inherent bias and the same goes with these guys. How are we edifying ourselves if we constantly look for validation of our opinions instead of constantly questioning the validity of our opinions? There is a big difference.

If they're doing a psych test, it might be good to avoid mentioning anything about poo. Unless, of course, it's something the job entails. Oh, and good luck.

I couldn't help but notice that top issues of the day on one blog include taxes, energy, financial crisis...and Sarah Palin. Huh?

Hey, good luck on that phone interview. If you act on the phone like you do on this blog—poo posts aside—you'll be a shoe-in.

I like to say -32C. It sounds way more impressive.

It's supposed to be 80 degrees here today... and has been for the past couple of days as well. I may not ever buy a house, but dang, the weather is great.

Good luck with the interview!

You guys are getting what we've had to deal with for the last month. I'm sorry. Stay warm!

I read Huffington Post for the celebrity blogging that goes on. I like to hear Alec Baldwin and John Cusack *swoon* talk. That's really the only reason. I also like to listen to Anne Coulter so I can recognize crazy when I see it out in the world. I'm fair and balanced for reals!

Amen, brother! Ideologues on both sides of the spectrum bore me. Surely the best approach is somewhere in the middle, and if you're only interested in winning an argument, you're never going to find a workable solution.

Psychological test??? whoo whee....scary! And should I tell you that I'm basking in your old stomping ground of SoCal (Newport Beach) this AM...it's in the 80s and clear and palm trees are swaying.

At least our high of 7F looks balmy compared to your temps.

Isn't the trend in the nation that people are only clustering with other like-minded people, including in residential neighborhoods? I am sure the net reflects that.

Because we're right, dammit!

Or left, in this case. ;-)

Best of luck on the interview. I don't think you'll have a problem.

I get those emails too, it seems like they went around harvesting emails from the blogs?

I think *everything* has inherent bias. I think understanding that is part of being able to form your own opinions.

Best of luck with the interview! I'm certain you'll impress them with charisma and charm, and absolutely win them over with your intellect and insatiable insanity that they seek for employees; hence the need for a psych-exam.

Best of luck culling out any non-thought provoking web-mails from either extreme... they have their sights on re-analyzing your psych as well.

That drives me crazy too about trying to find winter clothes in winter. I was going to suggest a ski shop, but you did well going to Winners.

Best wishes for the job!

Good luck with the potential job!

We're gonna need a modeling of the new coat, please.

G'Luck on the interview :)

I guess you would have it by now right?

I find it maddening when stores have the opposite season merchandise. No coats in winter, but plenty of swimsuits. So stupid.
