Odds and ends

What're you doing down there? He really doesn't mind us messing around with his feet unless the clippers are near. Then it's whine city. I had his nails cut again with the free service across the street and he whimpered (loudly) all along. He must have been traumatized sometime before we got him because he's really a big baby about it.

My hillbilly husband is having two teeth removed today. Cue the sad trombone. This is what happens when you shun dentist visits for too many years. He had one removed many years ago, I'd say about 15, but you'd never know it since it doesn't show. These aren't really going to show either since they are in the back. Now he has to decide between the cheaper partial denture or the automobile priced implants. I feel bad for him so I'll be extra nice today when he comes back. Would you like a smoothie honey?

It's just lovely this getting old bit. We were at a little birthday barbeque on Saturday and the gang was primarily around 30 years old. They were actually talking about how they didn't feel quite as spry as in their twenties and how little pains were cropping up where there had been none before. Ha! We had to inform them that they better get used to it since it's all downhill from there. Honestly though, I didn't think those things at 30. 40 yes, but not 30. My latest ailment is arthritis which it looks as though I've inherited from my mother. It's just eating away at my right pinkie finger these days. I don't notice it much unless I shake someone's hand and then, ouch! As I understand it, it's only going to get worse over the years. Fun!

We have so many dang flies in the house. I don't mind it so much unless I go outside and see them crammed onto a Georgie turd as though it were a small beach on a sunny day. Then I remember how dirty the creatures are. The reason there are so many is that we leave the back door open so Georgie is free to go in and out to do his business. (Poor little guy didn't see the screen door and ran smack into it the first time. Now the screen is open too.) So Serge opened one of the front windows and took the screen off. I asked him about it since the way I see it, there are now two entryways for flies. He said, "I took it off to get rid of the flies." I pressed for an explanation of his logic. "They have no way to get out, so now when they come in they can just fly out the other side." As you can imagine, there are still flies in our house. What we need is a screen door/doggy door. I wonder if that exists.

Today is Monday, the first day of summer and I do not have to work. Yippee dee dee!

I'm jealous of your summer vacation. Send me dental support to Serge. And I agree with you on the screen thing. They do sell the screen/door doggie things yet I haven't investigated either.

Dental procedures and a description of flies. I'm glad it ended with a happy description of you not having to work. Yay for that!

The flies in your house are not the same kind that get on dog poo. Here's something my great aunt used to do: I would go to her house in Cincinnati and she had all of the windows open but no flies. Everything smelled faintly of moth balls. She put a few moth balls in a potpourri bowl and after a while I got used to the smell. At least it kept the flies out. Ted

LOL, I love your hillbilly husband's circular logic!

I LOVE the fly theory....however flawed it might be.

And I LOVE the pic of Georgie. Good angle.

I too notice that when one gets older we tend to talk about our ailments. I'm trying NOT to be that guy, but my blog might tell me differently.

I'm pretty sure doggie doors for screen doors exist, but you'll probably have to hunt around for them. Try using old-fashioned fly paper in the meantime -- much safer than mothballs.

Serge needs to let me know how he found a dentist he can deal with. I'm in the same boat!

Is any part of that dog not cute?

Have you noticed that your puppy's paws smell like Fritos? Ours does. Great shot.

If you don't want the expense of putting in a doggie door, you can train Georgie to expect to go out twice a day. That's what we do with Sophie, and she's fine with it, each morning before breakfast and each evening after dinner. Our theory is if she can hold it 12 hours at night, she can hold it 12 hours in the day. Works just great: less tension from getting stared at with dog rays so that she can go out (as she used to do with hubby).

I think Serge is just being polite.

Lots of sympathy about the flies, we are a dairy farm and I hate flies with a terrible passion, you can buy flie screen here on a roll, try commercial sellers or the food hygiene dept of your local council. You can always get a carpenter to put something together.
Sympathy to Serge as well for his dental problems.
You have managed to cover my two biggest phobias here, I will spend the afternoon sucking my teeth while armed with the flie-swat.
Meanwhile enjoy the summer.

Have you tried fish oil supplements for the arthritis.

Why yes there are such things, we have one.
We can leave the sliding door open with the screen closed and Corky can come and go as he pleases, When you come to CA. check out a couple of hardware stores, or look on line, you can install it yourself, cost about 25 to 40 bucks.
Have you stopped giving Georgie rawhide chews? it does cut down on the gas.

Here is a link to Petco one of many put supply superstores for a doggie door fits into a sliding door - no construction needed.

If they can put a man on the moon, surely they can cut a screen and teach a dog to walk through it? :)

All our living room and dining room screen frames are in the garage waiting to be re-installed. It's been smoking hot here the last few days so I went ultra-hillbilly yesterday and put tinfoil up in the windows since my blinds haven't come in yet.

I don't understand Serge's explanation, when was the last time you saw a fly flying a straight course?!

Interestingly my 30's were problem free too.

It took getting into my early 40's for all the bad stuff to start happening. Things like inner ear problems, dental issues etc.

The dental is all fixed, after close to $5,000, luckily all but $300 covered by insurance. Now I brush and floss daily. Plus having the wisdom teeth removed finally stopped the rotting of the 2nd molars though one had to be root canalled.

I'm 30 and I'm noticing the decline! Perhaps we grew up in a slightly more polluted enviroment then all you? It's certainly come up in conversations with friends that we heal way slower than we used to, that back pain is common, the energy levels are nowhere near what they were a decade ago, lol, we must sound like arthritic 60 yr olds sometimes. But it's a definite trend, wish I knew what caused it.
