Titled What We Say To Dogs, one of my favorite one-panel comics I've ever seen depicts a man in his living room shouting, "Ginger, get down off that couch now ginger, I mean it, I want you to get down ginger, down off that couch right now, c'mon now, get down and I'll get you a cookie if you get down now ginger."
Over the dog, Ginger, we see the text cloud above, which is titled, What They Hear. "Ginger blah blah blah blah blah blah Ginger, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Ginger, blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Ginger, blah blah blah Cookie, blah blah blah blah blah blah Ginger."

I love that one too. So accurate.
I've seen that one before; it is hilariously true. I'm sure that our dog, Fargo, only knows certain words, especially the T-R-E-A-T one!
I remember that one! I love it cause it's so true!
HUGS...
Later in life he repeated this cartoon for cat lovers. Same scenerio only Ginger is a cat. Here is what a cat hears:
blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
I thought it was hilarious and also so true!
I love that one, too. Charlie Brown "teacher-speak" for dogs. I think Molly hears "blah blah blah blah drive blah blah blah truck".
I'd forgotten about that one. Classic.
i just think they have better selective hearing than most humans (and that's saying a lot.) we are already spelling things like "walk" in front of indi because there's no doubt she knows the word. but then she also knows "down!" when i yell at her to stop trying to lick the edge of the counter but it doesn't make her choose to stop.
sometimes i really wish i could stay mad at her for more than 5 minutes. too bad i don't have the same problem with the hubs.
Love that one.
With my Chihuahua I didn't need words. I needed only to set on the sofa and sniff the air and he would run into the Kitchen to protect his food bowl. Or he could be asleep curled up on a towel in the bathroom and I would turn on the can opener. Before it even started opening the can he would be there sitting up and begging for his supper. He died at 11 years old about 8 years ago. I still miss him.
I have a cat. He doesn't even hear the blah part. So independent!
Yes, the cat version I saw simply had an empty speech bubble for what the cat hears.
Mine know their names and what no means. They just don't necessarily heed anything I say.
Another cartoon I remember from years ago, titled "names we give dogs and names they give themselves", showed a dog named by its owner "Spot" conversing with another dog with the text cloud above saying something like "Greetings, my name is Marcellus Caninethenes, keeper of the gate, skilled hunter of the flesh of all mammals, and a direct descendant of Cannis Sirius, Prince of Orion."
I hear that a lot when my co-workers talk to me.
It reminds me of chatting with students.
i swear thats all moxie hears!
It's one of the Far Side classics - that and his series on daschunds - he knows that breed to a T - every cartoon I experienced with my two. Turns out he owns daschsies.
I love Gary Larson
I bet Sara didn't laugh. Well, maybe she did, but it's just because she has perfect manners.
dogs in comics are my favorite. i always get a laugh thiking of my dogs doing the same things. "get fuzzy" is a very accurate pet comic too, dog and cat though.
Taz hears backwards. Today I said "Stay down off the couch while I am out" Instead, he jumped on the other one and scratched the hell out of it. I know he knows, he is just pretending he is dumb so I will take pity on him. Anyone who knows how to spell cookie knows what stay off the damn couch means!
Dogs.
We pick up THEIR poop. Who is stupid?
I do so love the people who reason with their dogs. It's amazing. They are going to have a heart to heart with the dog and tell them why it is that they are upset with them. In a calm voice they do this. As if the dog understands them.
People are idiots.
When I get in a very deep conversation the only thing I hear is pops and clicks.
