This n that for the first day of spring

Spouse and I watched the last half of Dancing with the Stars. During one of the commercial lead-ins, they had a clip of Heather Mills with her artificial leg saying, "It could come right off" which sent me into a tizzie of laughter. I couldn't stop imagining her twirling this way and that, the artificial limb being flung offstage or into the audience. I even got up and demonstrated, lol. Spouse said I was cruel, but it was the show that pointed out the possibility. Anyway I was done crying laughing by the time she came on with her partner to dance. I, along with the rest of the audience, held my breath. It was amazing. I actually couldn't tell which leg was the fake. Very impressive.

I saw a leaf on the ground yesterday as I was walking to the wood mill to give a class. "How can that be? The trees are still bare, " I thought as I passed. So I stopped, turned around and looked more closely. Gross! It was not a leaf at all, no, somebody's lung foliage is what it was.

It's officially spring. One thing I don't understand. I thought the spring equinox meant that every place on earth had 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. But here, we broke the 12 hours of daylight mark on Saturday. 4 days before the equinox. Which part of my logic is faulty, because I certainly don't get it.

Hey Torn, the first day of Spring is not exactly 12 hours of daylight as some think. It is when the sun passes directly over the Equator. Which occured at 8:07 EDT on March 2oth this year. Your Welcome.

We missed Heather - argh. We were flipping back and forth between that and Six Feet Under on Bravo and missed her dance.

The world is a funny place for sure, when a lady with a fake leg on a dancing show creates this much fuss.

I saw an interview clip where Heather Mills mentioned that she had a spare leg offstage in case it broke! I exploded with laughter at the casual, deadpan way in which it was mentioned!
But really, good for her.

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind. I would have laughed too. But I do admire Heather for what she did.

It is -21C here this morning with a 70% chance of wet flurries this afternoon. Spring my ass!

Oh and Heather Mills? I would pay good money to see her leg fly off. I'm not a fan of the gold digger.

Oh, I forgot that was on! I had planned to watch it.

It sure doesn't seem like spring here. Every morning there is a fresh dusting of snow covering the previous day's melting slush.

LMAO at your Heather Mills comment!

Happy first full day of springtime.

Lung foilage? Ick. Haven't heard of that one before. Thanks to Ed for helping us all out on those things we know very little about....I knew there had to be some good explanation. As for the fake leg: We had a man on the airplane a few years ago that needed to have CPR administered to him, like, right now. Two other crew members grabbed him out of his seat and began dragging him up the aisle toward the front of the airplane. And, lo and behold, his artificial leg stayed behind.....ker-plunk, in the center aisle. One guy grabbed it, held it up, and said "What am I supposed to do with this?".....
I would have been laughing right along with you.

Hm. Just this morning, I noticed that we, too, broke the equal day/night barrier last weekend. So, what, on the equator, the changing of longer day/night occurs at the equinox, but the farther north or south you are, the earlier/later the barrier is broken?

I would tell you that I will be watching each week in the hopes it does come off, but I might be perceived as cruel.

It wasn't until someone mentioned "gold digger" that I finally put together in my head just who Heather Mills is. I could not, for the life of me, remember why she was a celebrity. I watched Robin Hood on BBC America.

Hey Earl. Spring occurs everywhere in the Northern Hemisphere at the same time. There is only one Sun. The Sun appears to move South during the Summer and Fall. Then we have Winter. Then in the Winter the Sun appears to move North and we have Spring. as the Sun crosses the Equator we have the Vernal Equinox or first day of Spring. Actually, of course it is the Earth that moves up and down as it continues it's trip around the Sun. I hope this helps. Happy, Happy Spring.

If that guy is coughing up leaves, he should really see a doctor. That can't be good.

Your account of the potential for an artificial leg mishap had me laughing, too!

Equinox... isn't that a mid-size SUV by Chevy?

Eewww, I hope you didn't touch the "lung foliage."

It's definitely spring in Florida. No idea if we're 12 light/12 dark, but the weather is gorgeous. Y'all come visit!
