This and that

Serge made this great thing the other night. It was a mountain of crepes layered with ham, cheese, and brocolli. He made some kind of herb citrus sauce too and it was just delicious. Then when he was cleaning up, he broke the crepe maker the crepe maker broke for no ostensible reason. It was a pretty old hand-me-down and we were worried that maybe they didn't make such a thing anymore, but lo and behold, Amazon of all places carries one. Our friend Dan has made crepes at our house a couple of times, always off the cuff, but last time I watched what he concocted and wrote it down. Since he wasn't measuring I eyeballed and came up with approximately this: 3 eggs, 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup milk, a bit of orange zest and a smidge of salt. That's for dessert style, so you'll want to lower sugar and up salt for meal style crepes.

The weekend was pretty dull. I was puny and sickly the whole time, but it's just a cold I tell myself and then push through to do all the things I'm supposed to do. Chores, lesson plans, walking Georgie. We got out of the house a bit on Sunday, when we had a late breakfast and trip to Home Depot. Of course half way though I had to torque but I held it successfully until we got back home. Kinda like cigarette cravings, the urge eventually passes. Unless of course we're talking the squirts and then the only recourse is release, hopefully in a nearby public facility.

I've been really resisting acknowledging the eye failure going on with me. I do not want to succumb to having to wear glasses when I read, because the more you do that, the more you need them. Stave off the inevitable for as long as possible. The key is light. Usually I can avoid getting out the reading glasses if I find a bright source of light. We picked up a couple at the home depot, little spots at our desks that are perfect for reading things like instructions or directions which always seem to be in the smallest typeset possible.

Happy Monday peeps, only 4 more days to the weekend.

Until I read this, I hadn't realized how long it's been since we've had a poop post. Don't let this encourage you. This pace is fine.

I finally succumbed to glasses at 45, and the doctor said bifocals. No way! But now I wear progressive lenses and I like them so much I had sunglasses made too. When your arm gets too short, you have to do something.

I have been wearing glasses since I was in my late 30's. I wear them all the time now, I like to see :-)

As I get older, the ability to hold a torque is also fading.

LOL at the reading glasses, I gave in because I could no longer thread needles to sew nametapes in my childrens school clothes. So far reading is OK but when I need them for reading I will hang them round my neck like the old person I am!!!!!
Serges crepes sound good, do you celebrate pancake day in Quebec?

I just bought 3 pairs of reading glasses. I hate that but can't see to read anymore. It's a bitch getting old!

I have worn glasses since I was 11, and needed them when I was 9, so it's all the same to me.

Superman makes crepes in a shallow skillet. He pours the batter on the hot skillet, then picks up the skillet and swirls the batter around by his amazing wrist motions. It's fascinating to watch. I've never tried it myself. I find that if I don't know how to do something, Superman does it better. Yes, I'm lazy.

I've worn glasses since I was a kid so that's not the issue, it's having to LIFT the glasses up or look over the top of them that drives me wild! I've tried to get the reading glasses because the optometrist says I don't need the bifocals, but I can't see with the reading glasses either. Damn old eyes.

Remember the 40 ways to say poop thing I sent you years ago? I've never heard of "torque" that's a new one!

Technically I'm nearsighted with slight astigmatism. Which means I don't have the reading issue.

And my vision without glasses is good enough. I do have a pair for driving but otherwise I don't need them.

I've worn glasses since third grade and switched to contacts in high school. So far at 44 I've staved off the need for reading glasses. Only time will tell.

My folks (Dad 80 and Mom 70) recently had eye surgery for cataracts and now neither of them need to wear eyeglasses anymore after a lifetime of them! Although they still need the reading glasses.

40-45, the age for bifocals. :(

Love crepes, but for me, it's the filling?

hehe

A crepe maker?

Um...don't you just put a thin thin layer of the mixture in a frying pan, cook it, take it out of said pan and do another one?

Then fill them and bake them for very short period of time?

That's how I was taught.

My optometrist recommended bifocals recently, but I'm putting that off as long as possible too. I normally wear glasses for my myopia, and removing them usually allows me to see very small print, so am making do with that for now. And you're right about the bright light helping.

I love crepes -- But unless that crepe maker mixes the batter and flips them, I will continue to depend on the kindness of strangers. . .

I was looking at LASIK surgery before the economy tanked and we ended up a single income household. I've worn glasses since I was 9 and my eyes don't handle contact lenses (Oh, how I've tried), so I'd love to need them only for reading.

Glad your "torque" past. That would have been a mess.

I hear ya on the glasses. I use glasses for distance only -- my reading vision so far (knock on wood) is okay. But before only needed them for driving now I use them all the time.
