It's so nice to wake up in the morning these days. For the better part of 20 years, I'd woken up in a state of withdrawal, the need for nicotine spurring me from bed towards that glorious first cigarette of the day. Now upon waking, I tend to lie there and let the newfound consciousness percolate. Sometimes I even fall back asleep. Sometimes too it's the explosive turdification waiting to happen that propels me from bed. But I suppose that happens to all of us.
I saw a ridiculous ad for Stephen Harper (the prime minister of Canada) showing him being a dad. Like that was it. We are in an electoral campaign and his cuddling with his kids seems to be the point of the commercial. Um, excuse me, it's really not all that hard to become a dad. And how does that make you a better leader? It's nice that he has had the right to build his family. Too bad he would like our right to build a family rescinded. Fucker. He won't be able to though, even if he wins a majority. (Which sadly seems more and more likely.)
It's funny when the whackos talk about the "gay agenda". Ha! Get three queens in a room and you'll have three different opinions on matters. What they are really showing us is that THEY have an agenda. See, when they talk about us trying to "convert" the children and get gays elected into government, they are showing us that those are the things that THEY ARE DOING. When they accuse us of trying to pervert the world into our way of life, they are admitting that it is exactly what they would like to do. Funny ain't it?

Amen Brother Torn. If they are so afraid marriage will be destroyed the will make it harder for straight couples to divorce. They are trying to rescind and annul the Gay marriages in california. Brad Pitt is leading the fight to keep Gay marriage on the books. wouldn't it be awful if Gays had their way and a person could marry the one they love without regard to gender? ed
Good morning, Torn!! I hadn't realize how nice it was to wake up in the morning, until I read this from you right after lying there in bed, not feeling like that Nicodemon was pokin' me with a stick.
"Explosive turdification" usually waits 'til after coffee, though!
I hope YOUR gay agenda for the weekend includes something fun!
I want someone to tell me how my brother marrying the love of his life would have had ANY negative effect on my children. I would point to David and say, "That's a positive example of commitment." My hubby, who still listens to conservative radio dammit, is not allowed to use the word "agenda" in my presence.
I couldn't have said it better myself.
Oh my gawd, that's an excellent point -- how the Cons' reference to a "gay agenda" reminds us that it's them who have an agenda. But unlike Stevie Boy, I won't plagiarize your thought when I can finally blog again. My ancient installation of WordPress is majorly screwed up right now and the task of repairing/upgrading is driving me nuts.
We have the same thinking here with Sarah Palin as you do with Stephen Harper. The fact that she calls herself "a Hockey Mom" gives her the credentials for being VP. The sad part is that people are buying it.
Stephen Harper is creepy and has plastic looking Ken-doll hair. He will never get my vote. (Hey if they want to spoon feed me lame reasons TO vote for the guy, I'll give them a lame reason to NOT vote for the guy!)
The Straights have done such a fucking bang-up job of maintaining the sanctity of marriage, dontcha know? I mean, the divorce rate alone cements the theory that we've got it all figured out!
I think they should make it as hard for straight people to get married as they have for gay people, then maybe people would get their shit straight.
I also poop after the coffee. Hell, I can't even see until after the coffee!
The pot often calls the kettle black, as they say. I think you are right on in your analysis of those who accuse us of having an agenda. It is quite clear that they *do* have an agenda!
I thought of your comment about the three queers and laughed. It might not be a stretch to say that if you had one queer in the room you might have two (or more) opinions on a topic. :)
What a great post! I've been saying what you just said for years about the wacko religous right down here. They are so hellbent on forcing us to all live THEIR way that they have infiltrated the government and have never been closer to legislating the manner in which our citizens must live than they are now. Scary times.
it'll be a sad day for sure if they do get their majority....guess that's what happens when people don't have choices.....
meanwhile - how could even you work poop into a paragraph about spending relaxing time in bed....sheesh ;-)
Turdification.
For me it's lincoln logging.
I've always been of the opinion that the family photo op like that is supposed to send the message that the candidate will be a good daddy to us all and keep us all safe. Too bad there are a lot of people who think so poorly of themselves that they feel they need to be watched over. Along with everybody else.
I think you are spot on with your analysis of using children as props. The other day I watched a "loop" of film of Sarah Palin getting off of the plane with baby in arms to only give him to her younger daughter when the cameras stopped clicking. They will stop at nothing to try and present themselves as the moralists they are not. I think most people are becoming aware of this photo op act.
May your "Explosive turdification" not become projectile.
Yeah, the US's obsession with electing "ordinary" people seems to be spreading here a bit.
I don't want an ordinary person running the country. Show me a candidate solving a difficult math problem in 30 seconds. Show me a candidate delivering an unprepared speech on the nuances of a difficult social issue. I really don't care if they can change a diaper; that's not a skill relevant to the job they're trying out for.
phronk says changing a diaper isn't a skill relevant to the job the politicians are trying to get elected for. I am not sure I agree with him. When viewed metaphorically, changing a dirty diaper is exactly what a good candidate should be able to do. There's plenty of shit in government that should be cleaned up.
No. The fundie wackos accusing gays of an agenda while they themselves are pushing their own agenda? It ain't funny at all. Pisses me off.
You are SO RIGHT about the accusation of the "gay agenda" being exactly the same thing the wholesome breeders are trying to do: change others. Its funny, but sickening at the same time.
