Crappy weekend

Sunrise yesterday was gorgeous. It was all downhill after that though. We took the car in to get the oil changed and to have the winter tires put on - about a sixty dollar job. They called us shortly after to recommend fifteen hundred dollars in repairs. The car isn't even worth that. We agreed to eight hundred in repairs, but I think we're going to look for other mechanics since I saw "six spark plugs" changed for $101 on the receipt. They ended up keeping the car all day which thwarted spouse's plan of taking the dog for the final vet visit. See, I'm mentally okay with the final vet visit, and logically it's not such a bad idea, it's just that when I let my mind envision those final minutes, I fall apart and think, "I can't."

Also, the french girl never called back to take the apartment so we're back to square one. We've decided to wait until stinkman is out to re-advertise because the stench is really off-putting and the prospective tenant will always remember that - no matter how clean we get it before they move in. We'll just show it once it's clean and eat the $20 a day it costs us to have it empty.

Em called me up a few times yesterday. She's battling the fact that people are really putting "Yes on 8" signs around town. She wants to come up with some kind of slogan to go along with the "Yes on 8" that she can use to make people think. The first one she pitched was "Yes on 8 - the crybaby vote" which I thought was too obscure. I was thinking more viciously like "Join the haters, Yes on 8" or "Christ is watching you have sex, Yes on 8" or "The only place for homos is Hell, Yes on 8." As I explained to her, it's probably a lost cause. Every time a vote on this issue has been put before the populace, the gays lose. Why? Because we represent a single digit percentage of the population. The courts are there to protect minorities from the tyranny of the majority, which is the only time we gays really get an equal footing (in America). You know if we had to pick just ONE type of scissors to be sold in the marketplace, and put that to a vote, of course right-handed scissors would win the vote. Same thing here. After this though, the courts will no longer be able to protect us since the discrimination will be codified into the constitution. Even Obama is against us and that makes me sad. I watched this horrible video (warning, if you're like me it will make your blood boil, also have you seen a more obvious closet case?) used to promote the passage of prop 8, and when I watched what they were describing as abominable ( a child coming home from school with a book depicting different types of relationships) I thought, "So what? What's the problem teaching children about reality?" But apparently this is very damaging to the children. Cue the sigh heard the world over.

Every time they voted to give civil rights to Blacks it was voted down. Finally, LBJ stepped up and forced the equal rights issue. Yet, today many people vote against Obama because he is Black. Oprah has helped the cause immensely. We need a Gay Oprah but I'm afraid it won't happen any time soon. Feeling superior to others is very widespread and enjoyed across the land. ed

How about, "Family values include hate. Yes on 8". I like your one about Christ is watching you have sex though. I'm going to remember that one. I don't understand either why there is such fear and hatred either. So many countries recognize same sex marriage now - they're all doing fine.

Kisses to Sara. I know there's other stuff here that's important, but that is what I'm stuck on. So please, go kiss your puppy for me. And for you, too. Just love on her. That's all there is.

Whacked out family indeed in that video. Scary that most people are like that. Good call on that apartment, smell is very important and creates a memory. And my heart goes out to you about Sara, it's tough but the right thing to do! Give her an ear scratch from me.

Prop 8 is a scary situation.

My heart goes out to you about Sara.

I hope next weekend is a good one.

Wow, I remember when my kids were in Kindergarten and how appalled I was when they learned understanding and acceptance of others.
/sarcasm off

Those people are retards.

And the clown in the suspenders? OMG don't even get me started.

Please give Sara an extra hug for me.

Closet case, indeed. This is an annoying video; I'm tempted to cut them down personally (she couldn't do her hair better than THAT for the camera?!?!...and what about that sobbing...), but that doesn't solve anything.

But man, it pisses me off.

Hugs on the Sara issue. Never an easy thing to contemplate. Just give her lots of lovin'...and each other, too.

That video really pissed me off. Parents have no say in what schools do, it's true. If they want a say they need to get involved at the school board level.

But when they came to Parker getting arrested, oh I cheered. Should've locked his Christian ass up for a few years.

And the wife, Judeo-Christian, can't even call yourself a the Christian fundie that you are.

Perkins - I'd like to smash his fucking face in. Standing there looking all concerned. Riiight.

I think you are wise to wait until Stinky is out of the apt and you can clean it before you advertize. I recall house hunting 20+ years ago and being taken to a nice prospect. We walked in the door and the stench was overwhelming. As nice as the house was I would not consider it further.

My heart breaks with you over Sara.

When you're up against the combined money of the RC's, the MOrmons, and the Right wing Fundies, you facing an extreme uphill battle. I keep pulling for "No" as best I can from PA. It's a battle we need to win, not just for CA, but for all of us.

At some point this issue will go to the Supreme Court. If there is any justice left anywhere in this country the Supreme Court will rule that it is against the constitution of the US to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. At that point homosexuals will be allowed to marry each other, in addition to having other protections that every citizen is supposed to enjoy.

Oh, Sara.

maybe the vet(check around if you are interested, I had to call several vets) can come to your home? We did that in Big Bear and it was a lot less stressful all around.
Drinking before (and a LOT of drinking after) is also good and how about a little of her favorite food (steak?). Buddha was at the same stage Sara is and he loved the steak!
Don't be afraid to cry my friend, I'm crying already. Wish I could be there with you both.....
call me

I'm so sorry you have to go through the final vet visit. I've been there and just thinking about those final minutes now is getting me teary-eyed. I don't blame you for not wanting to be there.

That video made me want to punch my computer in the face.

Maybe they SHOULD get parental notification. "Hey, wanna participate in a fair and moral society? No? Then stop having kids and get the fuck out."

I appreciated your reminder that courts are in place to protect the minorities from the tyranny of the majority. It is so true.

If civil rights for African Americans were left up to the populace to vote on in the 1950s, we'd still have virtual slavery in the south.

Mark :-)

Is it just me, or did both the men in that video look like pole smokers? Try and be optimistic, they tried to roll back same sex marriage here in Massachusetts and it didn't work.

Good luck with the apartment and the de-stinkification of the place.

Anonymous suggestion about the house call might be a good idea. I know my friend Dan did that when he had to make the decision for his cat Fish.

I wonder if that fellow is excreting that smell through his pores? To have the whole place smell like that sounds like more than just bad hygiene.

We must go to the same place to get our oil changed.
