Too many smells

I got this shot the other day when I was downtown. I liked the way the Mount Royal colors were visible between the skyscrapers.

I didn't even notice I was blond in that twenty five year old picture yesterday. I was a towhead all through my youth and then it turned brownish in the winters and finally stayed brown in my 20's. I only dyed my hair twice, once with my father if I recall correctly, and it came out orange which thusly led to the second dying. Somebody has a picture of that somewhere but I don't. Also, I noticed that I had rubber thongs except not the kind that are so ubiquitous today with the anchor between the large and second toe. Even then I had an aversion to flip-flops.

Ugh, I think we're going to have to get Sara some diapers. She seems to leak urine all the time now. It ends up staining and accumulating even though it's usually just a drop or two at a time. Imagine a living stalactite in a cave, slowly oozing water. After a while it stinks, like sweaty socks fermenting. I keep thinking my feet are smelling and then realize it's her stinky bed. (which we keep washing) Can't see, can't hear, can't hold her pee, can't walk without stumbling, trips and falls frequently. I'm not rattling a sabre but someone else around here is. In fact, he made some fact checking calls yesterday. I know it's inevitable but I pleaded for at least another weekend.

We showed the apartment yesterday. We had put a note on stinky man's door two days prior alerting him to the visits scheduled. He never saw the note because he never came out of his dungeon to see it. So he was surprised when we went in thinking he was out of town. God did it reek. We had to give a little pep talk to each visitor before we went in promising that it would be totally disinfected. One of the people we showed it to actually gagged several times while we were down there. The good news is that it looks like one of the visitors wants it. A nice girl from France. I think the french are used to funky smells, as she didn't seem too bothered by it.

Here's wishing you a stench free weekend.

Sara's had a good life with the two of you, but I know how hard it is to let go.

That is so vile that your tenant smells that much. Good grief.

It's awful, isn't it, wanting your beloved pet to be free of pain but knowing the only way to do it is to let her go. If she is happy, get the diapers. If she is not, you know what to do. Prayers for you, sweetie.

Well, we all know of one French man that got used to your funky smell. And we are all glad of that! ;p)

It breaks my heart to hear of Sara's deteriorating condition. What a terrible decision to have to face.

Glad to hear the apt will likely rent quickly.

Mark :-)

So sorry about your Sara. Our previous girl, "Miss Sally", was part Shepherd and lasted 16 years. I do remember her last weeks and one hates to see them reach that point. I awoke one night to see her sitting, facing the wall and just staring at it. It was obvious that she was becoming confused, her eyesight, like Sara's had faded, hearing was going and to get her outside without her peeing was a matter of changing one of her commands. We used to say to her, Do you want to go outside?", which meant, do you want to go pee? She would immediately, think she was outside already and drop her blatter. We changed it to: "Look, Sally, a squirrel." She would immediatedly go to the door ready to chase it. Once outside, we would say, "Go pee.", which she would do upon command. It finally became time to euthanize her. Strange, how we now have a law to be voted upon in our November elections regarding human euthanasia. It should be a no-brainer, but we are kinder to animals than to humans that we think should suffer right to the end whether they want to be put out of their mysery or not.

Good luck with your new renter.

Sorry to hear about all the odor problems.

I'm very sorry to hear about Sara. It is a terrible time when it comes to the end. I've had to make the decision a couple of times and it is never easy. Enjoy the time you have left with her.

I've gone through the anguish of euthanizing a pet not once but three times within the space of a year.

It's hard but by the third one I realized that my first cat Randy was almost 18 years old and his quality of life was going downhill.

Sara has had a good life with you. Do her the final courtesy of letting her go with dignity.

Her other issues notwithstanding, there are options for dealing with the incontinence that may help, if you haven't explored that already. It's also possible that she has a chronic urinary tract infection, which isn't uncommon in geriatrics of any species.

I think I've said it before, but I'm always happy to field pet questions if you have them.

Sorry about Sara, but I think of this when faced with this decision.

TREAT ME KINDLY

Treat me kindly, my beloved friend,
For no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.

Do not break my spirit with a stick,For though I should lick your hand between blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me learn.

Speak to me often, For your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footsteps fall upon my ears.

Please take me inside when it is cold and wet, For I am a domesticated animal, no longer accustomed to the bitter elements. I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your
feet beside the hearth.

Keep my pan filled with water, for I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready,
willing and able to protect you with my life, should your life be in danger.

And, my friend, when I am very old, and I no longer enjoy good health, hearing and good sight, do not make heroic efforts to keep me going.

I am not having fun. Please see that my trusting life is taken gently. I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I drew, that my fate was always
safest in your hand.

Poor Sara, I'm sorry to hear she seems to be getting worse. It is such a tough and personal decision to make. Be with her at her last moment, it will be hard but you won't regret it. Been there.

I could barely get through the comments because everyone who's ever been a pet owner knows what you are going through and their stories just break my heart.

Love her Torn and don't be scared to let her go.

How in the hell are you going to get the stink out?! I recommend bleach. Then maybe light some vanilla candles after the cleaning.

So I assume Mr. Stinky in his dungeon isn't getting his deposit back? It'll take you guys a lot of effort to get that place de-stinkified.

Poor Sara. Poor Torn and Serge. My old girl graciously took that decision out of our hands and had herself a nice quick heart attack just a couple of months ago. Unfortunately we haven't gotten the "old dog" stink out of the carpet yet.
