Another nothing weekend

Look how cute the honey is. He was just waking up from his usual Sunday afternoon nap. He was tired because he had worked himself into a frenzy to make cake. I think this is the first time he's ever made cake for me and I really don't know what set him into motion on this. Best to just gratefully accept and skip the wondering why with him.

Watch how he just barely tolerates my filming of him.

Here we go with food again. See, when it's nut-shrinking cold here we just stay inside all day. I know we should get outside and embrace the season, but that's just not what we do. We stay all cozy inside and cook and eat and play games on the computer. Don't be jealous. Here you see the ingredients for la tartiflette. Potatoes, onions, bacon and Sir Laurier d'Athabasca cheese. A little olive oil to fry up the potatoes and then put them all into a casserole dish and bake for 10 minutes so the cheese gets all gooey. No salt nor pepper necessary. I would eat this daily if it weren't so obviously unhealthy.

Even the butt coffee smells good this morning. (sorry, you know I just couldn't resist.)

David has a dish similar to tartiflette that he used to make, and he calls it hash. I don't remember all the specifics, but it involves pretty much all of the same basics except meat. Anyway, he brought it up last night, because he's only ever made it for me once. Must be the cold weather bringing it to mind.

Speaking of which, I have to venture out shortly to try to shovel out enough to leave for work extra, extra early. I hate it when snow interferes with my sleep.

I think your spouse looks thinner than I last saw him on your blog...

I thought Serge said Gato something, I've heard the French like to eat cats. I expected a german chocolate cake but the Bundt cake has less calories. Everytime I see your floor I look for Sarah. If I still miss her I know you guys really do. ed

This warms my heart! Such a cute video, and a spouse who makes a cake for no reason and cleans up afterward. You guys are so lucky to have each other!

"Watch how he just barely tolerates my filming of him." Aww, poor Serge...isn't he really just barely tolerating your subtle mention of the cost of the Bundt pan. What a sweetie!

Cake and tartiflette! How you suffer during these endless Montreal winters...

Wow! Lucky dude! Someone who loves you enough to bake a cake---and from scratch. Serge is terrific, but, u r 2.

Hey now, look at those yummy blue eyes that match his shirt..and I do like a man with his arms over his head. And, by the way, that lovely "Another Nothing Weekend" title just SO MAKES ME WANT TO TRADE PLACES with you.

I gained ten pounds reading this post.
It could just be me, but I was thinking "Who cares if you have no eggs, you have CAKE! WOOHOO!"

For some reason, that first photo reminds me of the Violent Femmes' song "Blister in the Sun", when he sings "big hands, I know you're the one". Hehehe!

You're a lucky guy to have that Serge.

I think staying inside eating yummy stuff IS embracing the season. Not the only way perhaps, but a fine one nonetheless. You guys are adorable.

Serge looks adorable, and even desirable! And to make it a win-win he cooks delightful dishes for you!

I'm rather envious, but am thrilled to hear how wonderful you guys are when I read posts like this one.

I loved Serge's "deer in the headlights" look when you mentioned him using all the eggs.

Ah, this is too sweet. Love it.

Good picture of Serge. He looks so young there... (don't tell him, he'll get a big head).

The cake looks great, and I love how he takes your teasing about how much he spent in stride. And think, now that you have it, you might have cake all the time!

Serge looks so young and innocent in the snapshot. A cutie for sure.

It makes me laugh that I looked at the picture and thought that Serge looked old. (He will hate me for that.) It's just that he was a baby when I met him.

Also, I agree that he isn't barely tolerating your filming, but instead he is viciously hating you for bugging him about the cost of the cake.

Finally, oh how I wish that I was there hibernating in your cozy house eating german cake and tartiflette! I would be entranced by the snow instead of hunted by it. For a few short years anyway.

Pay no attention to Em's appraisal of Serge's age. I'm struck by how young and adorable he looks. He does seem to look even better now than he did a few months ago. Has he changed his beauty routine?

I'm all for Sunday afternoon naps. Naps are why Sundays have afternoons, didn't you know?

Let them eat cake! I made a cake on Monday. Gâteau aux pruneaux. Probably not as tasty as a Gâteau allemand...

Your food looks divine. Absolutely fabulous.

Tartiflette! It is bringing up lots of happy childhood memories. What I really miss though is boudin with scrambled eggs for breakfast.

I mention boudin to Americans and they turn sorta green and want to know how anyone can eat it.

The cake looks wonderful. Bravisimo, Serge!
