Nothing to read here

I wish I had something to entertain you with today. Tomorrow should be better because today's the twelfth so I'll be snapping pictures throughout the day for you. I had a miserable day yesterday because I had woken up from a nightmare the night before at 3am and that was it for sleep that night. I blame myself though. See, I received a nice little package from Johnny who was trying to help out with my insomnia issues I was complaining about a few weeks ago. It was a dream catcher and he told me to put it near the window. Well I didn't do that, I put it up near the computer. Then the terrible nightmare. I don't consider myself superstitious, but yesterday I put the dream catcher in the bedroom and voila, I slept 9 hours uninterrupted. Thanks Johnny!

It is impossible to keep up on the blogs every day. I have over a hundred posts a day to sift through and this is just too much. I need a blog assistant to help me do this. Plus there's facebook, or timesuck, whatever you call it and then I signed onto Twitter. It's too much! I can't do it all even though I want to. I've got a stack of unread books sitting here too that I would LIKE to read one day. Any suggestions on how to do it all without losing your sanity? What if I just read 30 bloggers instead of 120? That would probably help, but then I'd be mired in guilt, useless as that is. Guess I'll just keep plugging along until something gives.

You don't use a feed aggregator like Google Reader? I highly recommend it. Of course, when I have limited access like I did the last several days in Delhi, I occasionally end up needing to delete things wholesale, but it generally keeps things in line for me nicely and saves on a lot of clicking.

Torn, I give you complete permission to only read every third or so blog post of mine, and don't feel compelled to comment as I know how much time keeping up can take. HOWEVER, I will still be haunting you and if I'm in Montreal you have to meet up with me again! Deal?

I use Bloglines Mel and every morning when I wake up there are over 100 new posts. I tend to add people to the list far more frequently than deleting. Snooze, I always read your posts and of course we're on for a date next time you're in town. I'll expect the same next time I'm in Toronto.

Dude. You gotta start weeding out. Even if it's moi! :)

You gotta have time away from the computer to read real stuff. And when summer comes and you're outside more? Oh, and when you come back from the cruise and start talking about a puppy... Hey, how'd that get in there???

Do whatever you most WANT to, not what you think you NEED to.

p.s. 102 days today!

Funny, I just (already!) saw a 12 of 12...from someone in Australia where it's already Friday..... As for the blog reading, are you using Google Reader or some sort of reader? There is no possible way I could do it without that.

I limit myself on blogs. I only have 55 bookmarked and I only read about 12 of them daily. Twitter is a waste of time, and Facebook doesn't really eat up much of my time. I check in maybe hourly for about 5 minutes, unless I'm bored or procrastinating.

If you're using Firefox download the Sage sidebar tool.

Just go to Tools/Ad-ons and click Get Add-ons

Now, getting blogs into Sage is easy.

Simply go to the blog address.

If it's on blogger append /atom.xml to the end and the feed will pop into the window. Drag the address over to the Sage sidebar and presto, it's there.

For Wordpress blogs, like mine, use the same process except append /feed instead of atom.xml.

Then to see blogs click the refresh button in Sage and it'll bold all be blogs with new content.

Click the blog and you get a summary page of posts.

Guilt is the most destructive emotion imaginable. I can remember times in my life when I gave up large amounts of it, and it was very liberating. If you start to feel guilty, tell yourself to stop. Easier said than done, I acknowledge, but with practice, it works.

As for blogs, feeling guilty about not reading them is so high school. If you stop reading one, you're not saying the person who wrote it is any less of a human being, you're just saying that you don't have time to read everything.

I still remember the first time I gave myself permission to stop reading a book because I didn't like it. It was a revelation. The same is true with blogs.

And if none of that works, maybe think of all the things you could be doing with the time you save by not reading every blog you've ever read. Sort of like how you saved all that money by giving up smoking.

Unlike the other generous people above, I'll demand that you keep reading my blog.

It's your own fault , you want to be that busy and never have any time for relaxation, your life will soon become just a twitter entry of your pooping !! : )

You're Blog isn't one thing that matters, it's the only thing that matters. If you don't comment on other Blogs everyday there ae plenty of others who will. Many people never comment but just lurk on Blogs. Become a lurker and free yourself. I give you permission. Now go to the shelter and get a doggie. ed

You could move your bed beside the window and the dream catcher would be over the bed and by the window. Then when you get up in the middle of the night to pee you'll be disoriented from the rearranged room, you'll stub your toes, trip and fall, wet yourself, and I don't know what else. How's that for a dire situation? Never mind me, I'm just procrastinating.

If you figure out how to manage it all, let me know. I have lots of blogs I want to read every day or two, and just don't have time to do it all anymore. Sometimes I don't read blogs at all, and sometimes I read blogs when I should be reading chapters 9 and 10 in my psych book for the exam tomorrow. Oy.

Thankfully, I'm not part of the problem since what I do is hardly considered blogging. :)

It's Facebook. It's sucking us dry.

Facebook=Stupid.
I'm telling you, CUT THE CORD! I used to spend almost three hours a day reading all my regular blogs and I had to whittle it down to only the few I have left. It got out of control. Of course I lost 90% of my readers in doing so since people seem to only comment on your blog if you do the same on theirs but at least I have some semblance of a life again. But I am only saying all of this cuz you already told me I would make "the cut" but then again, you were probably just being nice. You're like that...a nice boy.

I thought I read a lot of blogs, but 100 new posts a day? That's ridiculous. If I were you I'd cut it down to the top ones you can't live without.

This internet thing sure is addictive though. AVOID GETTING MORE INTO TWITTER, AT ALL COSTS.

Not to mention that you have to wade through all of these weighty and insightful comments here on your own blog. But they are delightful and make the time just whiz by. And they are worth every moment.

I'm having difficulty keeping up with my favourite blogs too but I keep checking yours.

I can sympathize. Stacks of unread books. And I'm six issues of Vanity Fair behind.
