Can't wait

Have you heard about Hulu.com? TV is really coming to the internet. NBC and some other companies are joining together to bring instant tv with a searchable database for tv episodes and movies that you can watch streaming (like youtube) on your computer. What's the catch? Commercials, though they say they will only have 1/4 of the number as on regular tv. I think this is a fabulous idea. And about time the big media companies are embracing the internet with this venture instead of rabidly focusing on controlling content all over the place. I imagine this is the beginning of the end for satellite tv companies and gadgets like tivo. I can not wait for this. You will get to watch what you want, when you want. Plus, they are making it so you can clip scenes from the content to place on your blog or website!!! (I felt it called for three exclamation points.) Anyway, when I read about it, I instantly thought of Gayprof and how he would creatively use clips from Mary Tyler Moore, Charlies Angels and Wonder Woman, seasons of which are all slated to be available on hulu. You can pinch yourself now to verify that you're awake.

For now, you can only access the beta version of the site by invitation. I'm waiting for my invitation and you can get on the list too by visiting hulu.com.

There isn't very much on TV I care to watch. I loved Seinfeld, gone, I loved Will & Grace, gone, I hate the new game shows where you don't have to be any thing or know anything to win. I don't think I like the idea of Ads on the Internet. One is too many.

I guess I like the idea, but for now I'll steer clear, as I can see myself up 'til all hours watching back episodes of The Muppet Show.

The thing about TV like that, is you have to watch it on your computer. They need to have some sort of easy interface to get TV from the internets to your TV (maybe something exists already?)

I hadn't heard about this. Thanks for the head's up. It sounds great.

I'm not sure this will work for us in Canada. I've tried watching episodes of Survivor and was told that I could not watch it because I was outside of the US. But if it works, that would be excellent... provided I could channel it to the TV so we could watch on the couch and not seated at a desk.

i don't watch a whole lot of tv but i do like that some of the networks are offering their shows online. i've caught up on lost, house and others this way.

and yet it seems to feed our already out of control need for instant gratification. the whole "on demand" thing on cable is nice, i like it, and yet it spoils me, too. gimme, gimme, gimme. i dunno, sometimes i feel like a geezer when i complain about how easy and soft everything has become.

I have a sattelite dish and all the channels you can imagine AND three seasons of Wonder Woman on DVD that I still haven't even opened and this excites me!!! (Three for me too)

If it's on the innah-net, I will watch it.

It sounds pretty damn cool but I don't think it will kill Satellite TV. I believe it will put a serious dent in Tivo and other DVR sales, however.

Personally I don't care to watch movies or TV shows on my 17" computer screen, sitting at my desk. I'd rather sit on my big comfy sectional sofa and watch my big 32" TV.

Plus, there's just not that much on TV that gets me excited. All the shows I used to love (Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, Will & Grace, Sopranos) always get cancelled. I'm just waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop and find out that my only existing favorite TV show "The Office" doesn't get renewed.

All I watch nowadays are HGTV and Netflix.

I've been watching a lot of ABC programs on their website. I'm always out on Thursday nights when Ugly Betty is on.

Anyways, I find the commercials really obnoxious. Maybe I'm not used to watching commercials on my computer or I've been spoiled by TiVo, but they just feel way more irritating on a PC.

Oh.My.God. I feel a little dizzy with excitement. CoG will be nothing but wall-to-wall seventies t.v.

I need to sit down.

Married with Children? Fame? Mary Tyler Moore? What a load of dreck! Good general idea, however, but I won't be getting rid of my satellite dish real soon.

Dude, that sounds like heaven. Great idea. And your commentary is so right-on-the-money.

TV is changing!

I'm going to check out that site.

I was wondering when they'd get their heads out of their a***s and do something like this. I think you're right - satelite TV will soon disappear.

ps word verification is: hukzmah

What a great, pleghmy word.

Ooh, Mary Tyler Moore! I always loved the episode where she was sick but still went to give a speech looking like she'd been hit by a truck...classic! I agree with the others who said watching on a computer sucks. Even on my wide-screen, wireless laptop, it's just not very comfy on the couch with a computer sitting on top of you.

Ok, it's time to invest in that 28 inch monitor.

Oh, this gets me all warm in my nether regions.

Oh, to be able to watch me some HOMEFRONT again...

Tivo will never die. Do not speak this way.

But this hulu sounds like a lot of fun.

Will there be porn, like all my other tv downloading sites? That's half the fun, seeing all the porn names that pop up when you search for your favorite show...

I might be easily entertained.
