Drivel

We're both up way too early for a Sunday. I just can't seem to get a good night's sleep these days. Serge says it's because I'm stressed about being so busy and he's likely correct, but what to do? Suffer, that's what. Sigh. At least there's nothing major to accomplish today, save the marketing and some heavy duty puttering around the house. Tonight we're going to my favorite restaurant. The ex is in town for a conference so spouse and I are taking him there. I doubt we'll get pictures because the ex is quite controlling when it comes to the picture taking. (Read: no pictures allowed.) But it will be fun to catch up. Lately, we've both been reunited with long lost college buddies via, you guessed it, Facebook. So we'll likely gossip about those people over foie gras.

I spent all day yesterday putting together the course outlines for the classes that started last week. All ten of the new classes. Ugh. At least now the planning is done and all I've got to do is execute, which after 7 years of this, I could do blindfolded. Smile, you're on stage.

It's raining and 40 degrees outside. Practically tropical. Of course it won't last long, it's supposed to be back in the single digits by tomorrow morning. God this is boring. Is this what it has come to? Talking about insomnia, paperwork and the weather? I don't know how you've stuck it out this far, but I'll try to do better tomorrow.

You might try melatonin to see if that helps bring on the sleepies. In my experience the effect was short-lived and I ended up waking up later on, but it seems to work for some.

I misread your title to be "Drive!" It works. Your drive is apparent in the day-to-day stuff you call drivel, which most of us would boast about.

The only ex I've ever had died young, so I don't know how one gets to the point where seeing an ex is a friendly exchange. But I read about it all the time in gay men's blogs. I'd like to hear your thoughts about that.

55° here yesterday, and 16 inches of snow is almost gone. I'm heading to Florida on Tuesday, where I will finally feel genuine tropical temps!

I wish I could say something enlightened about insomnia - like, try meditating for 20 minutes before you go to bed.

But then I would be a total phony. I pop 25 mg of a prescription sleep aid.

I don't have much to say either. We are going to see Slumdog today, yay

I admire that you've remained friends with your ex. I can't name a single one I stay in contact with.

Yoga. Yoga. That'll help you redirect your stress and center a bit.

oh i love au pied de cochon...the name put me off for a while but we walk by it all the time because our video store is across the street. it's so cute and once we actually went in and ate, we liked it. great ambiance--that whole street, in fact.

surprised that it's your FAVORITE restaurant: it's SO quebec!

You write about what's going on in your life and think it is boring. We happily go along and experience the joys and disappointments of your everydays. Thanks for taking us along. We'll never grow tired of reading about the things you seem to beleive is trivial. Get some sleep, 'kay? ed

You have written often about your sleep habits recently. Now you're not sleeping, but weren't you over-sleeping a few weeks ago? Perhaps it all balances out eventually.

Irregular sleep patterns are one symptom of depression. Hell, living through winter is one sign of depression for a lot of people. I hope you see some real sunlight soon.

Lots of aerobic excersize ensures that I sleep well. Try it. At least then you would have earned your foie gras.

It's hard not to be grateful for all the work when so many people are out of work, isn't it? It's the same reason I try not to complain about Derwood working the OT. It's hard on the soul though, too much work.

Serge is right, it's why you aren't sleeping but Java is right too, you were sleeping like a mofo a couple of weeks ago so it all balances. Plus, the days are getting a tiny bit longer, it will be over soon this dreaded thing called winter.

And yes, at Christmas, I haul BOXES of Santas out and spread them all over the house. It's a sickness. The birdhouses are strategically placed year-round.

I slept for about 12 hours last night. Actually not a solid 12, probably 3 or so hour chunks.

That said, temps here are as follows for the next few days. Positively balmy and it'll let all the ice melt away. Yippee!

53F/21F, 34F/24F, 40F/33F, 50F/38F, 48F/31F. Daytime temps are starting to peak up, and I note the angle of the sun is changing.

Here comes spring!

At least you haven't reached the age when you are talking about your various medical complaints. Besides you talk about poo!

I've heard about Au Pied de Conchon. If I ever make it back up to Montreal, I definitely want to go there.

Have a good time with the ex. The only one of the 3 that I remained friends with died several years back. I miss talking with him.

The menu looks interesting but pickled tongue, no thanks. What is duck in a can and what makes the pork chop happy?

I know you probably don't want to hear it, but yep, the sleep disturbances are classic depression. Can you hop onto Amazon or the like and snag a little SAD light? They're tiny and powerful now, and using one in the morning might really help you reset your clock and perk up your chemistry.

Good thoughts from someone else in a gray place...
