Smell my meat

Have you guys heard about the Whopper perfume? It's not new, they were selling it before Christmas and apparently it was selling very well. I only found out about it when I was researching news based listening exercises for my students. This has actually turned out to be a great classroom activity as we discuss perfume and smell. Before I play the news item about the burger perfume, we discuss possible new fragrances from a gas station, fast food places and more intangible things like our childhood, peace and the 21st century. Then I play the news item about the new perfume, Flame, which you can see at the Fire meets desire website. (Get it?) Anyway, you would think that this would be what, a novelty or a gag gift of some sort. They are full-on serious about this and if you listen to the news story you'll hear of a young man quoted saying, "I'd like the body spray better if it had the smell of extra cheese." This always gives us the giggles in class. Anyway on the site you can (virtually) spray the perfume and the scene changes to all of these romantic settings, the beach at sunset, a roaring fireplace, hearts and angels and champagne. Clearly they are trying to say that smelling like a hamburger is romantic, right? But then, mixed in with the romantic settings is Mr Burger King himself taking a bath and beckoning you to join him. If you scroll through enough of the scenes, you will see Mr Burger King popping the cork on the champagne and pouring it on himself. It is all just too bizarre! Which of course means that I just have to get some. My favorite slogan on there is "behold the scent of seduction, with a hint of flame-broiled meat." I don't ever wear perfume, ever ever ever. In fact, I try to always buy unscented things.
(alert, bad segue, alert)
Just the other day we were really low on soap and I had forgotten to pick some up while I was out shopping so I asked Serge to get some while he ran another errand. I should have known better. I didn't recognize the shape of it when I noticed it in the shower yesterday morning and then the smell was not too strong and I almost praised him for a good soap selection. Until. The soap didn't seem like it wanted to be washed off, and I just couldn't get that squeaky clean feeling. Ugh, what the hell kind of soap did he buy? I rummaged in the trash afterward and found it: Olay Body, softer, smoother skin in 7 days. Serge, in case you missed that memo, we are not females! Olay? As in OIL of Olay? Great, slathered an oily substance all over me. I kept smelling my arms all day and I could still smell the "soap" on me when I went to bed. I have buy soap on my list today, but then you already knew that.

The stronger the scent the better. I suppose you don't like fabric softener either for the laundry. You also mentioned, on my blog, never having put on hand cream!!! C'mon now. How gay are you? And what about moisturizer for your face? I suppose you don't use that either. I don't know what I'd do without my Garnier products. You may be needing your card revoked.

I only buy shower gel/cream now. I mostly prefer orange or lavender scents and now I have several bottles of the same stuffs in my room... Since I couldn't help myself when they are on sales.

Sadly though that the products I likes tend to be removed from Boots store after a while.

I'm not fond of the scents they use in soap, laundry detergent, or dishwashing soap. Something they're using these days hits my nose in such a way that all I smell is stench. It isn't that the scent is not to my liking. It stinks! Axe body products are particularly heinous. However, I wear perfume occasionally.

I'm not fond of the lotiony soaps either, for the same reason. They never rinse off. So now I'm curious, what's your soap of choice? It isn't a bit girly but I'm a creature of habit and therefore stick with Safeguard. I sound like a 60-year old man. (Not that there's anything wrong with 60 year old men.)

Serge is trying to tell you that your skin is not as soft and smooth as it might be.

I had to be blindfolded in Vacation Bible School in fifth grade. And smell things and try to name them. I got BACON right. Who would have known that I had a pechant for smelling meat and identifying it correctly the first time.

Bob loves the oil of olay, which is my way of refuting your shockingly gendercentric statement.

We go to enough hippie fairs and sheep and wool festivals that we stock up on handmade soaps. David can't stand the fragrances in most commercial soaps, so it's all about botanical oils. I can't imagine wanting to smell like a Whopper.

I likewise, hate scented products. I prefer unscented antiperspirant in fact. I've always had a very sensitive sense of smell and taste... and i truly find perfume, cologne, and such noisy odors more offensive than the odors of tobacco smoke 9I'm not a smoker btw).

I have to admit, I really like l'Occitane soap. Veti Verde. Though otherwise, I'm not too big on scents and I won't wear cologne.

That Burger King perfume is just TOOO much. I mean, honestly! Who wants to walk around smelling like a hamburger? Its bad enough that sometimes your clothes/hair smells like it from simply eating there.

I thought you were going to write that it was pet soap.

I use Dove soap, smells great and is gentle on the skin. That being said, the smellier the better but I prefer scents like coconut and raspberry over HAMBURGER scented things. Gag!

I'm having a little trouble getting past giggling at the title here. But that King is just creepy.

I don't like scented soaps either, but only because I always wear perfume. I'm with Em's comment, but your reaction completely made me laugh thinking of you feeling the soap on you all day. Today I hope you showered with soap you liked.

We have 'Axe' deodorant here with a 'leather' smell. Apparently makes you smell like a new car.

WTF. Who does that appeal to?

If people really want to smell like cooking meat, they should get a job at a McDonald's. My guess is that won't seem nearly as novel.

My skin is so dry from the winter cold air, I actually just bought the olay soap, too (I hate body lotion). I haven't tried it yet, though -- The non-rinsing sounds bad.

You want zing in your shower, use Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap. You will be incredibly refreshed. Alarmingly so for the first few minutes, trust me.
