Monday monday

We went to a seriously overpriced cafe for breakfast yesterday. We decided to try a new place instead of going to one of the tried and true breakfast joints we usually go to. (It goes without saying that this wasn't my idea, I'm the stick in the mud who always wants to go back to the same place, seated as I am in the if-it-aint-broke-don't-fix-it section.) I was delighted to see tabasco on the tables but couldn't actually bring myself to put it on my overcooked omelet. That color just isn't right. And the ketchup I suspect was being refilled with an inferior brand, the way it speckled the glass is not the way Heinz usually does. Plus that label is a long way from brand new.

Look, we are so pasty white that we overexpose photos naturally. The rest of the day we didn't do much although I did go down to the library to take back the Keith Jarrett Koln Concert album and pick up a few more cds. I had heard a track of his on the radio and it turns out that that album is one of the all time jazz greats from the 70's. Every time I hear some music I like I rush out to investigate it only to find out it is from 30 years ago or more. Case in point: I picked up some Vince Guaraldi yesterday and really dug one of the albums. Turns out it was produced in '62. Before I even walked the earth. At least the Jane Monheit I got is from this new(ish) millenium. What else? Dinner was leftovers and we watched Tout Le Monde En Parle last night. I'll catch up on the Simpsons and Desperate Housewives tonight. Have a lovely Monday peeps.

Don't think of it as pasty white, but rather an alabaster glow.

Do you think maybe they mixed green Tabasco with the red? That'd certainly give it a muddy brown hue.

Andrew the Gay son of Bree on Desperate Housewives has a couple of scenes. He is getting better looking every day. He married a doctor. We should be so lucky. Tobasco sauce burns going in and coming out. You guys are the cutest couple I know. ed

That alabaster glow will save your good looks in years to come. Stay out of the sun!

I'm learning more about music from fellow bloggers than from radio these days. Each station plays only one kind of music, and that's boring. I'll check out your tips.

Lovely and Monday just don't go together in the same sentence.
Isn't going out for breakfast the best?

The only other reason I can think of for the "speckled" ketchup bottle (which looks rather gross) is that a previous diner shook the bottle (?)

I don't suppose you will tell us how seriously overpriced breakfast was. Although I do like the occasional breakfast out, I can't help but calculate the cost of same at home...

I'm that same color of paste. Stupid winter. It could be worse, we could be the color of that god awful tabasco sauce! WTF?! It looks like it sat out in the sun for a thousand years!

I hate it when restaurants cut corners in semi-obvious ways. You could always go for a fake tan if you are really concerned about winter whites.

I don't blame you for not using the condiments. Nasty!

I love the chipotle tobasco, and that's a little darker than the regular. I agree, that other bottle looks nasty. I always look like a freak when using condiments in restaurants because the bottles are just loaded with germs. Who wants to grab those and then eat???

Sorry to hear breakfast was not up to par. As for the Tabasco sauce, growing up in New Orleans we used a lot of Tabasco and that bottle has gone bad. If it's brown it needs to be thrown out. If they haven't replaced the Tabasco then I'm sure you're right about the re-used ketchup bottles.

The tabasco and ketchup really do look sketchy. I wouldn't have used them either.

I am pretty pallid myself. I have actually been toying with the idea of using the tanning booth at my gym.

There is one thing and one thing only that I like tobasco sauce on, that's Stuffies. Stuffies are clams with bread stuffing of course.

That said, I'm forever finding music that was created before I was born. I don't care, I did Cannonball Adderley, old Ramsey Lewis, and similar.

That tabasco looks beyond spoiled. Ugh.

There's always that toss up - the possibility of finding a great new place to eat vs tried and true. I usually stick with the old fave.

Totally unrelated to ketchup and tobasco, but I'm glad to hear you discovered Keith Jarrett's Koln Concert. I wrote about that a while ago in my blog (when I still used to blog, though I intend to resume one day). For me it goes back to the early '80s, when it was already about 10 years old. Freakin' amazing stuff.

Gross looking condiments. I've long thought that unscrupulous (sp?)restaurants refil their Heinz bottles with inferior ketchup. I know a fake when I taste one. As far as your paleness goes, we're all in the same boat. Hurry spring!

Your observations about the Heinz were spot-on. Even the Tabasco looked a little "aged." Time to go back to the "tried and true."
