Funked out
Since I haven't taken any pictures since the xmas card photo shoot, you get to see another one that didn't make the final cut. If it weren't pitch dark still outside, I'd take a picture of the lovely blanket of snow that has fallen overnight. Everything is so quiet and white. Although we have snow, it hasn't been all that cold thankfully. I've been watching with horror the temps in Alberta, at one point the temperature in Calgary was the second coldest place on earth after the South Pole. Poor them. I hope that air gets modified before it makes its way over here.
Remember the Holiday Inn I scored for forty five bucks a night? Well I did it again for Palm Springs and really hit the jackpot. We got the Renaissance right there in downtown Palm Springs where you can walk everywhere for forty seven dollars a night. We stayed at that hotel before it was renovated when we used to attend the annual White Party so I knew what a major score we got. On the website, the lowest guaranteed internet rate is $175. I love you Priceline!
Yesterday we woke up to freezing rain and the city hadn't adequately salted the roads so there was all kinds of slipping and sliding. I watched across the street as the bus turned the corner but the back of the bus continued the turn and smashed into several cars like they were toys. Thank god we weren't parked in front. I wish I'd had the camera rolling. It was similar to this video taken in Seattle last week.
Got some bad news about my mother's health on Thanksgiving. The worst words you can hear are irreversible and progressive, but those are the words I heard. It was my brother who insisted she tell me after having heard about it from his dad (my stepdad). She didn't want to worry me. She's taking it well, but I'm all funked out about it so maybe she was right. She's out on the high seas for two weeks fishing for the big tunas right now. Her dream is to land a 300 pound "super cow" and I really hope she gets it this time.
Have a nice weekend y'all.

You're right, not good words to hear at all. It may sound trite, but you really do have to enjoy the time you have with your loved ones. I feel lucky that we're mostly long-lived in my family, but you really never know.
My thoughts are w/you and your mother.
Tuna, huh? I guess I know nothing about your family (and why should I?), but most people just go to the river to catch something and throw it back. Good for her for going after the big stuff.
Sorry to hear about your mum, my prayers are with you and your family
That's tough news to hear.
I hope she catches the big cow too.
I'm so sorry.
I'm sorry to hear about that too... Hope she catches the "super cow"!
Just to clarify, it's not a death sentence. One of those things that can take a long time to culminate and even then there are possibilities to prolong life. She'll be around for awhile, thank the universe.
In the Christmas photo Georgie is saying to Torn,"I'll get you for this!" My Dad died a little over a year ago and I still miss him every day. He was in pain and ready to go but I wanted him to stay forever. Your Mom will catch that "big Cow" if not on this side then on the other. Hugs and prayers,Ted
Your mom's news may not have been the best, but it seems like she's not letting it get her down. After all, she's got "super cows" to catch and a granddog to spoil!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for her and the rest of your family. Hope there will be plenty of love, laughter, and oversized guppies to come.
Sending healing prayers your way and your Mom's .
When it comes to health all news can change things around, no matter how serious. I hope your mother adjusts to the situation. By the sounds of things.....she has. She wants to land a big tuna?! She'll be just fine.
Now that's was a great deal you snagged for Palm Springs! Good on you. Have a good one.
Jim
Indeed, not good words to hear, but I'm glad to read your clarification that it's "not a death sentence." It's funny how moms always know their kids, no matter what age said moms and kids reach.
I have tears on my tits now thinking of you and your mom.
I love that she's living her life full tilt, we should all take lessons.
I should get you to plan my trip to Vegas with Derwood or at least advise me on which places to avoid! =)
Big hugs to you and mama.
Bad news about your mother; I'm sorry. Good news about her attitude; I'm thankful. I hope she remains active and free from pain for as long as possible.
That's a great pic of your mom! Man, that's a lot of fish.
Knowing her, she will take this in stride, but I know that doesn't make the worry go away.
Good thoughts man, good thoughts.
Best wishes to you and your Mum.
Its better to know than to be kept in the dark specially when other people do know.
sending good vibrations and karma to your mom!
Still, you made it sound, well all Terms of Endearment. And when I say that, I mean in a good shoe, I wear a size six, but a seven feels so good, I buy a size eight.
Good that you will be going out to California soon and will see your mom. Bad news is always worse when you're far away. Hugs to you.
Sorry to hear about your mom. I understand what dealing with. My mother is currently being treated for lung cancer. I hope she gets the big fish.

Like the others, I am sorry to hear about your mother. It is great, though, that she is doing something that she loves.
Of course you're funked out about it. And I am so sorry. I'm inspired, though, that she doesn't seem to be at home crying about it. I can't imagine hearing those words and then going out to get a fish like that. She must have some kind of spirit in her.
Lot of love to all of you guys.
That crazy fish is like three times bigger than she is! What a gift that she is able to embrace something she loves so much. I'm sorry to hear about her health and I will pray for her and for your family.
I love the "losing" pics and can't wait to see the winner.
