Around town

I took this shot and since the foreground was in shadow, the people were nearly undetectable. I sent the pic to serge to see if he could use his mad photoshop skills and this is what he came out with.

(I tried to put this before picture next to the other one, but I'm not html literate.)

We went to the old port yesterday to see the reenactment of a public market in the 18th century. On the way there, it was quite hot and we sought out the shady sides of the streets. Upon realizing that most of the shops were air conditioned, we kept popping in, especially the galleries, and cooling off. I kept being aghast at the prices. They want four grand for what looks like would happen if you let a baby crawl around a canvas with paint on its knees. I was more impressed with the still lifes that looked like photographs but weren't. Wouldn't it be wonderful we asked ourselves, if we didn't care about price and could just come in and pick out our favorite pieces and bring home to put up. Of course, Dan pointed out, that it wouldn't mean as much as if you had spotted a piece, saved up for it, and then went down to purchase it.

At the public market, they had all kinds of weird things. People making candles and soap and clogs and yarn, others making spruce beer and berry spreads. I ate cheese from sheep's milk. I believe that's a first for me. Here I am in the old fashioned hand cuffs.

Because it's a touristy part of town, there are a lot of souvenir shops, and one of them had a bunch of funny aprons. Dan bought this one but refused to model it. Serge obliged me.

Art. I agree sometimes I don't get it, what people call art, I could do (but don't) so I guess that's why I'm not an artist!

I wish that I lived in a cool city.

(Gayprof, you should take some small consolation knowing MWFT is probably cooler now than it was before you lived there.)

What is that building, Torn? Gov't offices? Post office...? Ministry of Columns?

Looks like a fun Saturday. The spruce beer sounds interesting... nice apron!

Maybe you should get some canvas and paint and borrow someone's kid for a few hours.

I'm with Gayprof, I wish I lived in a cooler place with neat things to do.

Serge does have mad skillz! Both with the 'Shop and with Apron Wearing!

Personally, I think I'd appreciate it either way. I'd prefer the not having to save way better though! I'd love to take trips just to go art shopping. No other reason, just there's a blank spot on the wall and there simply must be something in Florence or perhaps Kuala Lumpur that'll be just right!

I think I agree with Dan. Most things are more dear to me if I have to save for them. The interesting part is when I scrimp and save and then go back and think, Hmmm, maybe I'm not so crazy about it afterall.

Hey, I like your photo essay in today's blog. I'm trying to finally get settled down and then I'll try and post some photographs from Pensacola, Florida. Hope you and Serge are doing well. Thanks for stopping by to visit the blog recently!!

Torn you look at home in those stocks. Tell Dan he shouldn't buy it if he won't model it. Serge, I think you need to pull the apron up a bit. I wish I lived in a cool city too. ed

I love that first picture and I especially like the people in it, their clothes work well with the colors of the buildings and it kills me that you don't know them.

If Serge keeps dressing like that maybe I'll come up and visit. (smirk)

I like your stocks pic too.

I wished I lived in a cool city. And by cool I'm referring to the temperature. We have some nifty stuff like that market reenactment around here. There is a Revolutionary War historical sight in the next little town over. They do some great reenacting stuff over there. But it's too bloody hot to go out and enjoy it.

The apron gives Serge a somewhat different look from what I've come to expect.

I must say you're looking all sleek and handsome these days--and my sincere congratulations on the smoking cessation. It's about the very best thing you could do for yourself.
