This n that

I've been sitting here an especially long time staring at the screen. The blank screen. Sometimes this works, I'll let the coffee wriggle into the wires of my body until it jogs the brain into an idea. That doesn't seem to be occurring this morning. (insert 10 more minutes of staring)

I had a pretty good class yesterday. Actually, all my classes are nice this session, a nice mix of old students and new ones. One of the new students yesterday said that she couldn't believe how fast two hours passed, and then just as she was going out the door, she said, "I'm, how do you say, a groupie." "Fan," I corrected her as I blushed. Stuff like that's likely to give one a big head. I can't say it didn't feel good though.

There was another first this session. One of my previous classes requested a different teacher. This was ego-bruising for sure, but was mitigated by the fact that it was an early morning out in timbuktu class. I have many students who sign up "only if we can have Richard", and to them I mentioned that I was unwanted by a class this session and they all expressed shock, unable to understand why someone would request that. That soothed my bruises. The comment I got (via HR) from the traitors was, "he's too relaxed." I guess they want some uptight nazi for a teacher, and that ain't me. Or maybe they hate fags. Who knows.

You are one o f those infectious personalities on line... in person you may be a bit overwhelming for folks that are a bit uptight with their heads up their own asses.

To me you'll always be the delightfully entertaining, energetic teacher of English as a second language to Canadians. (joking, lest I offend those vicious hot, sexy Canadian Boys)

I can't imagine anyone not liking you, you'll always be welcomed and adored by me.

I second that.

I can't imagine anyone not wanting you. The poop stories alone should make it interesting. So you have a fan? Maybe she would like extra tutoring in private? You might get your wish to try a split tail. Of course their is that woman scorned thing that may get you fired. Caution, proceed with care. Ed

It's always nice to be adored. Poo on that other class.

"too relaxed"? that's a lame excuse!!

It's really not all that surprising that people who want an early morning class want someone who's more of a disciplinarian. The people in my office who come in very early are the people who always want things done just so.

Then again, maybe putting your foot in your mouth was the wrong way to get their attention.

(Raising hand high and shouting, "oooh, oooh, oooh".)

I want to be in the fan club too!

How about sharing a short film of you teaching a class?

Oh I don't know, she really may have meant "groupie" in that, I believe a "groupie" actually will put themselves out there sexually for you...actually hopes to bed you down, where as a "Fan" just kinda likes you and that's the end of it. This girl may have confided her sexual desires in you and you just cut her down like some kind of weed. Maybe she had seen your post about wantin' some Gine and thought, "Oh, maybe he would like mine?". Poor little lamb!

At my old work place we constantly asked for new french teachers until we got one who fit perfectly with our needs. Don't take it personally!

I so get what you're saying. I can have 32 kids think I'm great, but it's the one who thinks I'm too silly or too strict or the one who said "nice lady, but I didn't learn anything new," that sticks with you for a long time.

You know you do a good job... forget those early morning doodie heads.

I'm sitting here for ten minutes trying to come up with a witty comment. 'Tis the season for mental blocks.

You gotta be you. "Too relaxed" is you. If that's not what they want, move on baby. I have that problem at work sometimes. I'm too nice, not strict enough and it bites me in the rear sometimes. But I am a friendly person, it's what I do. Live and learn.

It's hard to imagine wanting anyone but you.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was your last suggestion. I've gotten the impression that people get more and more close minded as you get farther from the city.

Or, maybe they hope for a gay Nazi.

I have many fans of my yoga class, but I can't please everyone and I don't try to. All you can do is teach the best way you can and those that prefer something else will find others to teach them.
