Homefront update

There's still no snow here. I'm not complaining because lots of snow means lots of cold, and if this is evidence of global warming, hey, maybe it's not such a bad thing. (for our neck of the woods) The dog seems to be doing better, walking more, acting more playful. (Yay!) She may have some months in her yet.

As I mentioned, nude dancer called us the day after we went to California. It had been two weeks since he had been to his apartment and we figured (hoped actually) he was just going to disappear. No such luck. He left a message saying that he knew he had to move out and that he would pass by and grab his personal things and "try" to pay us what he owes us. (I kept the recordings of him promising to leave - just in case) We called him back and told him that his cat had been taken (to which he had no reaction whatsoever) and he asked us if we had changed the code to his apartment entry. We told him, "no, and please get your stuff out as soon as possible so that we can stop losing money." He apologized profusely (in my view, too profusely, he's got the chastised child routine down pat) and said he would be by to pick up his things. Then we got caught up in the vacation whirlwind and thought little about him until we arrived home.

He still has not set foot in his place. It's been three weeks. Obviously, he's living elsewhere and doesn't need his things for his day to day life at the moment. I was bugging Serge to call and give him the magic line, "We are going to throw all your shit out if you don't come over and get it." And last night he did. Granted it was a message left on an answering machine, but he'll get that message and he has until Saturday to show his face. If he doesn't, Serge and I will bag and box up his shit and move it into the garage. Then we'll try to rent the place out. I don't know if we're evicting him technically since he isn't even living there. Blog fodder be damned, I want the fucker gone!

What else? I start new classes next week, so I've got to get everything ready, close out the books for 2006 and set my goals for 2007. I tried my new ice cream maker yesterday and made a batch of banana walnut ice cream. It's delicious. It did cost about twice what I would have paid to buy it pre-made, however. Best not to dwell on that part.

It will be nice for you to start a new year without dancer. As for the ice cream, it may be more expensive, but so much more healthy without all the fillers and crap they put in ice cream.

And I'm sure that the banana walnut ice cream tasted better than that "sweat cream" from the hotel.

And I think you're being nice for even putting ND's shit in the garage. Out on the sidewalk as far as I would be concerned.

Still sending the "get out" thoughts his way.

I hope you find a new renter soon. One who pays on time. Homemade Ice Cream isn't fattening as the love it is made with takes out all the calories.
How do you explain oxymorons to your students? Like: Small Crowd, Military Intelligence, Civil War and George Bush. Oh, that last one is not an Oxy.
The increase in troops Bushie is sending to Iraq won't include any of his children.

i'm with rebekah. i think it'd provide oodles of satisfaction to put his stuff at the curb. unless you plan on billing him a storage fee, which would be justified.

homemade ice cream sounds divine. especially in summer when things like peaches and strawberries are in season. i'm drooling.

The good bits from this post suggest that you are near the end with ND. Just a bit more unpleasantness and it will be over.

The other positive is that you didn't let it ruin your vacation. Forgetting about him was the best thing to do, I imagine.

Now, pass some of that ice-cream over here.

I assume ND's place is furnished--so why did he buy a (new?) couch last month? What happens with that?

You are giving our samples, are you not? that sounds delicious. It may be more expensive, but you know the quality that went into it and I'll bet it is better by far than that which you would have bought.

As for nude dancer, may I suggest (tongue-in-cheek) that you organize a late Winter Solstice neighborhood block party bonfire? Of course it might burn until June or else present an atmospheric contamination.

I made chocolate-peanut butter ice cream once. It was fun. I was more excited by the process than the actual eating part, though.

I am glad you had a good vacation. I hope the kitty found a lovely home...and no, I stull have not won the lottery so I can't rent the place. Good luck finding wonderful tenants. You totally deserve some.

tell us the potency of the cream & milk you used to make the ice cream

i.e. was the milk 2% or homogenized? was the cream 18% table cream or 35% whipping cream?

sorry - I was going to write something p0rofound and then I read David's comment and my mind started to picture David making the ice cream, and getting excited, and, never mind.

Anyways where was I - oh yeah - you are WAY more than lenient with this fucked. I'd go with bonfire idea!

But think about the chemicals you're not putting into your bodies by making it yourself. It's so worth it. (And banana and walnut sounds divine). :)

What kind of ice cream maker do you have? This is the second time today I've heard about homemade ice cream.

You made homemade ice cream? You can't possibly have any other goals for 2007 than that. Because it really doesn't get better than that, does it?

Hopefully you will have a new tenant by next week. Between that and the ice cream the rest of the year is just going to pale in comparison.

After all this you are going to attempt renting again? It seems you don't have the stomach to be a landlord. Do you think that is a good idea? Although it will be more good blog fodder.

Take pics this time! Of the new renter I mean, and then you can threaten them and say, I am posting your pic on the blog if you don't pay or if you do anything wrong. I threaten people that way and it works. :)

I scream, you scream, she screams, he Screams, we all scream for ... nude dancer to be gone for good. Then let us eat ice cream...by the gallon!

Damn, that ice cream sounds all kinds of delicious.

As for N-Dancer's belongings -- you guys are princes. I'd pile it on the curb with a big homemade "FREE SHIT" sign on it.

But that's just me.
