This 'n that for a Sunday morning

It's brutally cold, man. We always end up in the icebox for a few weeks every year, and though we had a very warm beginning of winter, we are now well below normal for the period. Winter acivities for me are limited to ice skating (once per year) and sliding down the hill on the crazy carpet (once per year). I claim to ski, but truth be told, I haven't skied since I lived in Southern California. Here, I always decide, "it's too cold to ski."

There is a snow festival every year here. It started this weekend. I have never been. It is always too cold to ponder spending the day outside standing in line for beaver tails. (This is a kind of waffle/doughnut thing in the shape of a beaver tail with chocolate goo slathered on it. And bananas if you like, and I do.)

So we stay home. The video rental store is directly across the street, and I picked up a few movies for last night. We watched Click and United 93. Click was a fun movie I must say, however, I really wish Adam Sandler took some diction lessons. How has he become a star speaking so slushily as it were? And United 93 reminded me of watching Titanic. You know it's going to end tragically, but you're still drawn in, hoping for the survival of the characters. Even Serge was riveted. I was crying helplessly as the people called to say a final I love you to loved ones. And for the hijackers, I just kept thinking, "Cowards."

Ooh, I just thought about the best line in Click. It is in the future and you hear the droning news announcer in the background: "Michael Jackson, the first person to successfully clone himself, is now suing himself, for molesting himself."

Mmmmm, beaver tails. In Ottawa, our beaver tails come with cinnamon sugar, crushed walnuts are optional. Stay warm, spring is only a couple months away.

Get yourself a hat, you'd be suprised at how much warmer you feel!

it's going to be a balmy 70 here today... we had our winter, it got down to freezing once... by march, it'll be full on summer... lol...

Boston has had the slightly reduced version of your cold snap. Let's call it cold-snap lite.

I actually like winter -- but like it so much more when viewed from a window.

We have a winter festival here too ... a smaller, country version. It mostly involves horse drawn sleigh rides and food. Our beaver tails are dipped in lemon juice and then coated with brown sugar and cinnamon ... very good.

I haven't been on a crazy carpet in years. That looks like fun!

I am glad you defined what a Beaver Tail is I was thinking something else.
It is 12 degrees here and going to get even colder over the next few days. The weatherman blames it on cold fronts from Canada. We need to build a high wall or a row of heaters to keep you guys from freezing our assets off.
At least get some ear muffs. I never leave home without them.

The on the belly Crazy carpet method will win the race every single time! It is my preferred method of sliding. I am competitive when I go sliding. I want to go faster and farther. So unlike my every day life.

Oh and I love Adam Sandler movies but have yet to see all of Click. Now I must to hear that line.

Get out to the Winter Festival! Montreal is such a fab winter city. Unlike Toronto.

Where is the nearest beaver tail supplier to upstate NY? I have got to get my hands on one of them...
Beavers were my obsession as a child... go figure.

I don't think I could watch United 93 without crying uncontrollably during the whole thing, but I feel obligated to out of respect to the victims.

Sounds like a perfect day for snuggling on the sofa with a movie marathon.

I loved United 93 -- Adam Sandler, not so much.
