This n that

I was talking to em yesterday. She was a little shocked at the reaction to the truth or lie "embezzlement" bit. Didn't anyone have a youth she wanted to know? What, none of these people ever did something "against the rules" in their life? I assured her that everyone flouts the rules from time to time, but it is always rationalized. It's okay if I do it, but it's bad if others do it. In fact, I think the things that irritate people most are the very things they are guilty of. This certainly applies to me. But the recognition of it helps me work on my own shit instead of meddling in others. I agree stealing is wrong, but hey, half the country rationalized stealing the country of Iraq. Why was that again? I liked it in the Kite Runner when the father taught his son that all evil was a version of stealing. For example, when you speed on the highway, you are stealing security from those around you. When you lie, you steal the truth from someone. In those terms we have all stolen, I assured her. (I don't really remember what I said, but this is what I should have said )

Sara is too much these days. She's like a hypercripple. Her legs give out all the time, she can't hear or see well, but she behaves as though none of these things matter. The other day when it was food time, she ran into the kitchen, reared up on her hind legs, then her legs gave out and she collapsed backward and then thrust her hind legs again so that she flipped backward onto her back, flailing. Here I took a vid of food time. This was a very tame version of how she sometimes gets.

When my dog Fozzie was slippy, the vet asked me what kind of flooring we had. When I said laminate and lino, he shook his head. (He was a bit of a prick.) Anyway, he explained to me that hardwood or lino is the worst thing for dogs because if they are the least bit unstable, they will slip.

Sara still looks super spry so maybe get her some non-slip running shoes or socks with the little grippers on them. (Think that old dog could learn to wear shoes at this stage in life? :))

Anyway, you're right, we've all done less than noble things in our past. You write with such honesty and truth, it can appear quite shocking at times. Don't ever change, baby!!

I think you should feature Sara in a new production of "Tap Dogs". :)

The point of em and the point of your post is, in part, the very source of my incredulity at the (falsely so-called) "evangelicals". I think when we all come to the recognition (and acceptance) of what we have done throughout our life and take the high road of "working on our own shit" (to paraphrase you), tolerance for others would abound and we could all move forward into the future together.

i couldn't begin to tell you some of the awful things i've done in my youth... i'll save that for cocktail hour... anyway, love the puppy... i agree with the socks though, my vet said the same before i had to have my little "Gypsy" put to sleep... she was 18... i got her when i was 25 and had her till i was 43... it broke my heart... and, my vet said as long as her tail is wagging, it's not time...

Can't see the video here at work, but she sure is cute. I hate when pets age, it's so depressing.

i love that video and am inspired to make a similar one of indi. of course it doesn't compare with the jumping and whining i'd do if i had to wait for some other species to throw some food at me once or twice a day!

any more thoughts on a transitional puppy? (i'm a puppy pusher, what can i say?)

None of her infirmities DO matter to her. She is still lively and happy. She is still loved and loving. You can see that in every ounce of her sweet disposition. So nice to come home to!

That video just shows why we love dogs. Because they love us so unconditionally and joyfully...whether we made a mistake in our youth or not!

Sara reminds me of my dog Betsy when she got to be an old lady...she didn't care too much about being old, either. I'm pretty sure Betsy thought she was a puppy all the way to the end.

I'll second what Wayne said. Thanks for sharing the video. Gives us a smile. :-D

When we were young, we were good little boys and girls and always did what we were told, nom matter how badly we were treated. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Sara lives like we all should: none of our ills really matter. We're alive and should be happy to be so. It's easy to forget.

Sara look great. Every dog I've ever had has slipped on hard flooring. I want to put down a laminated floor but with my three dogs, I know I'll end up with a lot of carpets on the surface.

oh dear; Sara's afraid of falling! i think you'll have to put down some rugs for her or shes going to break a leg one of these days. I've seen this scenerio before and i think the dog actually grew depressed from worrying about falling all the time. I could picture her legs sliding out sideways....funny in cartoons but not in real life. It would help if you'd clip her nails as well. This oversight on your part struck me as really sad and in fact not good parenting. Try to think like a mother....Sorry if i sound harsh. I love dogs. My dog broke her hip....twice! But not from a slippery floor; she was chasing a cat.

The 'children' in our lives bring us so much joy, and your puppy seems a very happy little camper!

In due compensation for her failing legs, Sara's heart grows continually larging, more loving and more wise with each passing day.
What a blessed man you are to have such wonderful souls in your care.

My dogs always did the "bouncy" thing, too, and not just for dinner time.

LOVE that lock on your door. Very MI3!
