Doting on yesterday

The thought just went through my head, "How long are you going to sit here before you type something?" Then I calculated how long (22 minutes) and started typing this. I've just been reviewing the day yesterday, looking at parts of it, turning them over in my head, and deciding they're not worthy of your interest. Things like the fact that we had the doorbell system changed on the building. Two of the tenants doorbells haven't worked since we bought the place, and we've been trying to find someone to fix the system. The most notable thing about the event was the mesmerizing blue eyes of the locksmith. (And who knew it was them to call to fix the doorbells?) I also spent a lot of time yesterday reading the reaction to California's supreme court decision. Ellen Degeneres announced her intent to marry Portia. (And I thought they had split up. Why did I think that?) I read about the people trying to "protect" marriage and would like to change California's constitution. I look at my life with Serge, married, and I think, "We are not villains." If there's anything villainous, it's the fact that I had to leave my own country in order to stay with Serge. (read the Road to Montreal on the left for that story)

The afternoon was rather dull and I worked on more student evaluations. Then we took MIL out for Mother's Day since last week's plans were scrapped due to a car breakdown at the last minute. We went to this place. They have an entertainer and a little dance floor, and it was cute to see MIL dance with her boyfriend. Spouse refused to dance with his mother, but I don't think he knows how to dance this way. Everyone had their hands up a la Dancing with the Stars. This place is more for the generation that came before us and we wondered what our generation's place will look like in 20 years. Will 80's music one day be the hallmark of the blue haired crowd?

Sleep came effortlessly and lasted eight uninterrupted hours. Today will be good.

It is a glorious day. As California goes, so goes the nation. (after awhile)Now if only the religious right will come around. God is love and he loves all his children. If God didn't make Gay people there wouldn't be any. Baby steps. Ed

I think what's happening in CA is great, and kudos to Ellen for her gracious and funny way of educating America about gay issues. You were exiled by your own country for its backward policies. You have done well as a transplant, but I've always seen your experience as a testament to love.

Did you dance with MIL? I would love pics of that!

I certainly will be a blue-haired one dancing like Molly Ringwald!

I can picture it all now...everybody wang chung...

I celebrate the CA decision, but I do not think the pain there is over. The other side will not go down quietly or easily.

I see the rockers of my generation on PBS doing "oldies" shows. Somehow I would prefer to remember them as they were in the 60's - both in looks and in voice. It helps me to think of myself as still there, too.

You got my mind racing and I started envisioning blue-haired folks who still have their hair that is, out on the dance floor doing the "mashed-potatoes", the "chicken", the "line", the "continental", the "pony" (now there's a sight to behold, and the "four-corners." I don't think it's gonna happen unless there is an EMS team standing in the wings ready for the first of a long line of casualities. ;-) (joints-a-poppin) I know where I would be and that would be sitting at a table enjoying the efforts of my peers at going back in time.

Not only can the place you mentioned be for the previous generation but those of my generation should leave those who can dance "with wild abandonment" to do that and we gracefully relax in our moment of retirement. I know it would be more embarrassing to my friends, and family for me getting up there and trying to dance the way I could many years ago than myself. I digress . . .

Sounds like a great time was had by all.

I had thought that Portia and Ellen had split too. Go figure.

I'm pleased about the California decision and hope it stands. Then we can begin marching inward from either coast! But I do worry about this driving a McCain win in the fall...

Who knew locksmiths were for doorbells? Not me. Blue eyes, huh? Mmmm...

Hey, does Serge read "Sticky Crows"? Does he know that he's up on YouTube doing Peggy Babcock (well, not the way it sounds, obviously)...I'm still chuckling over that!

I hope the dancing with "hands up" never goes away. Chris won't dance but I don't give up hoping that some day he'll either get tired of my nagging or drunk enough to just say FINE! I'm stubborn like that.

The whole constitutional amendment thing bothers the hell out of me. These are people who want to enshrine discrimination into documents that for the most part have been to protect the rights of all people, not just the select few.

I am happy about the California case though. Now there's two cites one can make in other court challenges because there isn't a whole lot of difference between state constitutions. My cousin wrote a wonderful memo in support of marriage equality here in RI, he cited the RI Constitution, U.S. Constitution, and all the relevant case law.

I also made a nice little video and sent it to the entire judicial committee and the house speaker.

It amazes me we haven't seen action on this. The speaker of course is against it, but his #2 guy Gordon Fox is gay, so too is his #3 guy.

I did get email responses to the video back from two members of the judicial committee and from Gordon Fox.

I found out that the committee has been wanting to pass these bills for years, it's been the speaker quashing them.

One place we lived about 12 years ago we had a neighbor with the most beautiful blue eyes. I only met him once (it was way out in the country, so "next door" was down the street a good way) and decided I'd best not meet him again because I'd be tempted. He was gorgeous!

I'd have thought an electrician would be the one for fixing a doorbell. Interesting that you had a locksmith for the job.

We'll all be sitting in the lounge area of the nursing home, feebly swaying our palsied, liver spotted hands to Phil Collins singing "Another day in Parrot Ice".

I, too, am concerned over CA's "victory". Will it pave the way for more states to do the same, eventually prompting federal gay marriage rights? I hope so. But I also fear it could be a nasty Republican ploy to get disillusioned conservatives to jump on the McCain bandwagon.
