Annoying song obsession

Have you seen that the new itunes software update has a genius function?! OMG, the playlists it generates (from your own library based on a song you select) are awesome (well they inspire awe in me anyway). It also recommends songs you don't have that would fit in nicely with your newly made playlist. I have a feeling "genius" is going to cost me a lot of money.

In somewhat related news, there's this one song that I'm really into right now. It hasn't happened bad like this in a long time. Not since "Was That All It Was" by Kym Mazelle and we lived in Long Beach and I would close all the windows and then rattle them with indecent volume. Dancing. Over and over and over again. So this new song is a much different variety but during this certain part, this improvisational moment in the music jacks the strings inside me and becomes me, and I am in total compliance with it. Hard to explain. I do know this, it's impossible to remain still when it is playing. In fact, I drew stares on the bus yesterday. Now it's starting to annoy me, I mean I wake up with the song in my head and then I want to listen to it, yet I don't want to, because oh I don't know - enough already! But then I run and listen to it 2 or 3 or 10 times. I'm glad this doesn't happen all the time, obsessiveness is rather tiring.

So "sing" already! What is the song?

I hope it's not The Lion Sleeps Tonight. The only way to get one song out of your head is to replace it with another. In the jungle the quiet jungle the lion sleeps tonight... you're welcome. ed

All that and we don't get to know the song? C'mon now, 'fess up.

I haven't seen the genius update. Either I'm not paying attention or Apple doesn't think I qualify.

I've been that way w/songs before. The last song was an acoustic version of "Only the Lonely." I think I played that song a million times.

I have not caved to the whole ipod/itunes industry yet, choosing to listen to CDs the old fashioned way, or tunes on assorted online playlists...or just the
...r...ra...ray-de-Oh. I think that's what its called.

But I find I must nearly totally rock out when Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" pops up.

Of course, I find myself singing and dancing to lots of stuff, suddenly.

Genius has already cost me money. And I think Apple is evil.

Everytime I open iTunes it tells me that version 8 is available and do I want to download it, but then my OS X is too old to handle it.
So yeah, go ahead and keep taunting me with your fancy new Genius.
On the bright side, I will be buying a lot less songs this way.

Genius is pretty amazing. It would cost me a lot of money too, if most of iTunes selection wasn't a DRM-infected mess.

Go to Pandora-- they do the same sort of thing and it's free.

"Viva la Vida" by Coldplay had that same sort of effect on me.

Okay, I have to admit I can see (hear?) how that tune can become additive. The last time I fell into the curse of a song was just a few weeks ago ...a fado song. I had it on a loop for hours as I read stuff online.

I was like that with George Michael before the concert. I haven't listened to his music since. How odd. I play stuff like that too when a song becomes a favorite, I can't hear it enough.

I love that your rock-out song is jazz.

This happens to me a lot, even with songs I've known for years. Lately the one that gets me singing every single time is the Rascals' "Good Lovin'." ("Can you tell me...what's ailin' me? He said Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...)

Aiight. I'm off to check out this song.

I stopped using iTunes when my iPod broke. I use WMP now.

I know, I know.

I "LOVE" the new Genius function. As you say it builds brilliant playlists. I'm still trying to figure out how it works but I suppose it doesn't matter as long as it works. As for the recommendation/suggestions, they've already cost me a few bucks but it's still brilliant and to me way worth it.

I love the jazz. That song does kindof grab you and make you want to move, doesn't it? I love so much music but I have found lately that I like Jazz and all of its closest relations the best. Music, it is like magic for the soul.
