Mini-snippets

* I started a new class yesterday, check out the view from the room I was assigned. It's in the very tony CDP building where all the big wall street type guys work. They're a bit nervous around there.

* I saw that PETA is campaigning to eliminate cow's milk in Ben and Jerry's ice cream and replace it with human breast milk, like that Swiss restaurant. (It didn't seem to hurt the cow at all when I milked one.) I imagine human milk would be vastly more expensive. I can see the spam now, "Make Thousands per Month, Right from Your Own Home!"

* A very big head gets shrunken a lot.

* I hurt my neck nodding yesterday. Sheesh, what's next - hurting myself blinking?

* I learned something this week that has occasionally bothered me all my life. Not knowing the damn lyrics to that song, Blinded by the Light. The true lyrics are "revved up like a deuce another runner in the night."

* Today is day 87 (correction 88 - I'm already losing count) of smobriety. Now entering the dangerous period where I feel I've licked it. Must remember that I am one puff away from being newly enslaved.

* Alrighty, I'm out of time and snippets. Here's wishing everyone a lovely weekend.

I don't like milk, but infinitely would prefer that to human breast milk. Are they serious? That is demented.

Celebrating with you #87 (#88?)!

I can imagine financial types are nervouse all over.

Loved the "spam snippet"! Quite frankly the cows are quite grateful to be milked and get relief from the pressure. It hurts them more not to be milked. Kind of like..., well, you know.... ;)

nervous! ugggh! (never could type!)

Not smoking now will be a conscious decision, either you will or won't. I finally found some gonja but the urge to smoke a cigarette was very strong and it'll be 4 years on the 19th of October. Weird!

Breast milk is for babies, not for ice cream. Snooze used the best word: "demented." Surely if PETA were serious, they'd lobby for some sort of milk substitute.

As it is, most ice cream contains very little real milk. If you examine the ingredients, you'll see that even the products that claim to be "extra creamy" are made with milk by-products,which are mostly oil-based. Next time you eat ice cream, remember that you're eating OIL. Yum!

(One of the rare exceptions in Quebec is the Coaticook brand, which is actually made with real milk.)

p.s. Heartfelt kudos to you for your non-smoking. You're doing beautifully!

Ben & Jerry's should use Soy Milk. It would cost a bit more though.
So it's not Blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche and then we roll'um in the night?
Congrats on the breathing fresh air and the lungs turning back from black to pink. ed

For the longest time, I thought Jimi Hendrix was singing, "Excuse me, while I kiss this guy!"

Imagine my disappointment when I found out what the lyrics really were.

HUGS...

So, I drink copious amounts of cow milk, especially these days, (apparently being pregnant make me crave milk, weird eh?) so this isn't me saying 'don't drink milk', but...

It isn't milking the cow that hurts them, if it was just Farmer Sam out there milking their cow by hand, no one would care, and milk would be a bazzilion dollars.

I imagine the Peta concern is how the animals are treated. I have no real knowledge of how that might be, and I imagine it depends from farm to farm. Some farmers are no doubt very caring and careful, where others likely just see the cows as widgets and don't take particular care with them.

Also, breast milk - ewwww. I don't know why it seems so gross to me when cow milk doesn't, I realise it makes no sense, but still, ew. Don't worry though, I won't tell my baby that the milk they're drinking is gross, not until their at least 15 years old and I can tell them in front of their friends... (hmm, perhaps some clarification, tell them about the gross milk they *used* to drink, I don't plan on breast feeding my child until they are 15. *grin*)

The only thing that cow's milk is good for is growing baby cows into full grown cows. A milkman told me that once. That doesn't stop me from drinking it though. :) PETA needs to refocus, they're mental.

I'm so excited that you are still not smoking! Keep up the good work.

The big head thing scared the shit out of me. Yuck! Why'd he let his head get so big? I wonder what he looks like now?

Congratulations on your continued smobriety. I am finally without the patch this week and have been facing anew that bastard Nicodemon, but so far, with success. No laurels to rest on here...

Thanks for the big head video--I think you've made me grateful I can't see red on my monitor.

Smobriety is a good word, I like it

They can't ruin ice cream with breast milk!! Gross! So it's not "wrapped up like a douche you know the roamer in the night." I never knew the words to that song either.. I don't think most people do.

Congrats on your smobriety. I was at a party last night and there were a bunch of smokers there. The craving never came, in fact, I looked at them and felt bad.

WHAT? He doesn't say that? I have to go google it now.

I always figure that my ancestors didn't scratch and claw their way to the top of the food chain just so I could be a vegan. If those cows want to keep their own milk, let them learn to walk upright, evolve opposable thumbs, pick up arms, and fight for it.

I think a big part of the cow's milk issue is that big dairy farms inject their cows with hormones to make them produce more milk, which then throws off the cow's system and makes their udders over-full. So I agree with PETA's principle, but I can't see the world producing enough human milk to support the dairy industry.

I love your classroom view. It's nice to be able to see what the weather is doing. I had an office once where there were no windows. They installed a webcam on the roof so we could see what the weather was like outside.

the only upside to breast milk in ice cream would be that would then be one thing I would never overeat - gross!!!!!

Uh, breast milk is no different than cow milk. Good lord, it just goes to show you that human biases are not rational.

This does not mean that I think PETA publicity stunt is anything other than attention grabbing.

Why did I go watch that head thing? Oh and hey, if you injure yourself nodding, I think orgasms should be right out.

Mark in DE said...

Can you imagine how many lactating women it would take to equal the milk produced by just one cow? I agree with the others who think this is just a publicity stunt for PETA.

EH! That head video was gross.

Congrats on your smobriety! I'm so proud of you.

Mark :-)

Hard to believe PETA was once a legitimate operation. They were taken over by crackpots I guess.

Congrats on your smobiety. Hang in there, you'll be just fine. Thanks for the rest of the snippets. Hope you both have a great weekend too

My God! That head was huge.

Nice view!

Thanks for clearing up those lyrics.

Keep up the non-smoking and congrats on the streak.

You have yourself a nice weekend, too.

You have enlightened me on the lyrics to Blinded by the Light. However, "revved up like a deuce another runner in the night" doesn't make too much more sense than what I thought it said.

Ignore what Em said. Orgasms are good for what ails you, always.
