Snippets

* Did you know there's a wedding registry kiosk at Walmart? Wouldn't that add a touch of class to any wedding invitation?

* And just so you know, the only reason I could be found inside of the Walmart is because there was a McDonald's with their 2 dollar iced coffee.

* Which reminds me about something I'm unable to understand. Iced coffee always costs more than hot coffee. Sometimes double the price. I can't imagine ice is all that expensive. So why?

* Here's my three fave Bizarro comics from the summer. Click to see larger version. And if I'm breaking any laws, I apologize and will remove the picture. These three are hanging on my bulletin board.

*More trouble in landlord land. One guy bounced his check for the second month in a row. We still have three tenants who haven't fully paid for September yet, sigh.

* Concerning that election down south, I'm fairly convinced that "not enough experience" is a euphemism for "too black".

* In French, vaginas are masculine and beards are feminine. I really hate assigning gender to every noun, especially in cases like these where they make no sense.

* I got the new cd from these guys. (And I adore that song.) I've been listening to it incessantly. It's not most people's cup of tea, but we listened to them almost every night on the cruise back in June.

* Yesterday, I read that the more shrimp a flamingo eats, the pinker the flamingo becomes. This was in the grammar book as we worked on double comparatives. I thought it was BS, I mean shrimp aren't even pink until you cook them right? Well that shows you how smart I am, Wikipedia says the grammar book is correct.

A wedding registry at Wally World makes perfect sense to far too many in these here parts. Just sayin'.

Thanks for the Bizarro cartoons. I am not familiar with it and will have to look it up. I enjoyed them all, but I particularly liked the "fish debate".

Less sodium canned food costs more than regular varieties.
In places were shrimp aren't available the Flamingos are white.
My cousin married wearing bib overalls and his wife wore blue jeans. Wal-Mart would have been a treat for them. ed

I liked how the waiter waved in that clip :-)

iced coffee - generally this is an iced latte, never is it just iced coffee, there's always more milk/cream and sugar than a regular coffee. And it generally runs about the same price. Lots of places will ice your latte for you for the same price as a regular latte (which is, inevitably, far more than coffee, espresso-based and lots of milk makes for more labour and more material costs). Things like an IceCap from Tim's etc are that cost because, even though an IceCap is just a syrup, cream and ice - the market will bare the higher price.

And, for "not enough experience" is a euphemism for "too black" is something I'd agree with, except that people have started saying it about Pailin too.

Have always loved Bizarro, especially for the way he always hides the same little things in each cartoon - piece of pie, alien in a spacecraft, bird, etc. Do you always spot them?

Get firm on the renters, it's already the 12th. I don't know how you handle the stress of that...

I did not know vaginas were masculine. Hell, I don't even know the french word for vagina!

Did you know that to make iced coffee you just pour some in ice cube trays, freeze it, then whenever you want an iced one, pour regular hot coffee, add sugar and your coffee cubes. Iced coffee on the cheap!

I love Bizarro.

What throws me off with French is that sometimes the gender of a word is different from what it is in Spanish - vagin, par exemple.

I love the "aboot" comic. :)

I knew that about the flamingos. Lucky birds standing around eating shrimp all day. Not to mention being memorialized in the yards of new brides who register at Wally World.

And we all know that, if Wikipedia says so, it MUST be true.

In Dutch (and German), as a general rule, negative nouns are female, positive ones male. I was taught that in school... by a female teacher :-)

Here's the thing about iced coffee: usually it is double strength so that it doesn't become so dilluted by the ice. Here's where my Starbucks training becomes invaluable.

And my sister's wedding took up three days of the end of August. My missingness was willfulness not to be seen or heard from.

I haven't even been inside a Wal-Mart in five years (Yes, I feel smug about it).

Probably there is a gender logic to the French. In Spanish, generally "larger" parts of the body are masculine while smaller parts are feminine (It is a sexist logic, but a logic nonetheless). So, if vagina is masculine, how is clitoris gendered?

* I've only been into WalMart to get bus tickets--no profit to the store. I'm smug too.

*I'd bet the acid in the birds' stomachs "cooks" the shrimp and neutralizes the iodine the same as boiling. I don't know though... off to Wiki...

*mainja: I think with Palin "not enough experience" is a euphamism for "I don't think she's qualified" ;)

That sounds like a great song to listen to incessantly--I love that they have electronic sheet music! (Or are they blogging...?)

I love Bizarro. As for the evangelical fish, it's not a scientific study, by any means, but I believe I've noticed that lots of cars with those stickers also appear to have been in accidents. I'm just saying...

Cool about the flamingos. I had read a long time ago that they gave them carrot juice.

Not long ago I saw a commercial for a wedding celebration advertising Martha Stewart as being part of the "WalMart Family".

So there ya go. "Elegance" lowered to a new tacky, lowest-common-denominator level!

Re: shrimp/flamingo thing, I always learn something new from your blog!

Sorry about the problems with your tenants' payments.

Why do they charge more for iced coffee? For the same reason that dogs lick themselves.

I like Dantallion's answer.

I knew that about flamingos, but I don't know why. I doubt it has anything to do with the acid in the birds' stomachs, though.

I also knew there is a wedding registry in Wal-Mart. Do you know they sell wedding rings there, too? That disturbs me.

I love your little snippets. It's a great way of updating your readers. I may borrow the concept. : )

Wal-Mart wedding registration. I've heard it all! "Frank, let's get them a gallon of that Equate laundry detergent. It's on their registration."

Wait, the justification for being at Walmart is McDonalds? The latter somehow balances out the former? They're pretty much on par with each other, in my book.

Iced coffee costs more because people will pay more for it. Just like unleaded used to cost more than leaded gas, even though gas doesn't have lead in it and it had to be added. You were paying more for something actually hadn't been changed.

I LOVE Bizarro. I met Dan Pirraro once. I don't think he'll mind.

Greg said...

I thought the justification for Wal-Mart wasn't McDonalds, but cheap iced coffee...

I just finished reading through your archives and want to let you know how much I enjoyed your posts.

I'm hooked on Tornwordo!

I have no comment on masculine vaginas, but isn't the whole point of a beard to be feminine? I mean, if you go out on the town with a man, you're not going to convince anyone that you're straight.

My vagina speaks in a deep tone, but is definitely feminine. I just checked last night for a loooong time. (smile)

I wouldn't want to go to the wedding of the couple who registers at Walmart.

I like the "aboot" comic the best.

I miss good cartoons! The Brits have the worst - I mean Worst comics ever. Getting a decent American one is hard and they tend to be re-runs. So thank you for those - I used to love Bizzaro.

the first one is my favourite.

Those are GREAT comics. I'm glad I clicked on the pic.

And regarding "too black:"

I thought "not enough experience" meant "not enough appendages."
