This n that

It's the flag waving weekend. Today is the nationalist celebration St Jean le Baptiste, where all Quebecers are encouraged to celebrate themselves with flags and libations. There is a parade that will pass in front of our house in a few hours which will snake toward the Olympic Stadium where free concerts will be given all day. Tonight, there will be many fireworks. I'm not fond of these types of events. "We are the best," is not a theme I can adhere to be it here, in the states or anywhere. The best part of this day is that it's a paid holiday.

I'm in a funk. Ever since I finished the 6th Harry Potter. My haiku sums it up:

Dumbledore is dead.
Hating hard that fucking Snape,
I'm all glum and stuff.

We've been working in the garage on the parking meters and will continue to do so today. Also the tenant upstairs moved and we've got to prep it for the new tenant that arrives next week. The tub was FILTHY, but Serge and his Magic Eraser and CLR made it look like new again.

Hope your weekend is less drudge filled than ours. Peace.

What's CLR?

I just used my magic eraser and thought of Serge whilst I was doing it.

My problem is with parades. You did know that about me, didn't you? HATE parades. Loathe them. ANd yet, people still ask me if I'll go.

However, if I could sit on my balcony and sip Appletinis as it went by... perhaps it wouldn't be so bad.

Despair not, dear torn
Wizards made a secret plan
Dumble did not die

Chin up in regards to Dumbledore, Torn -- methinks Rowling is going to surprise us all in Book 7. Again, remember his pet phoenix Fawlkes...

Painting Meters, fun?
Serge is getting mad at you.
Make love when it's done.

Don't hate Snape. I think he and Dumbledore had a deal. Remember: Dumbledore always trusted him and he was the greatest wizard. I think he ordered the hit and Snape complied while going deeply underground, like Donnie Brasco or something. Then like Obi Wan Kenobi and Gandalf, he will return stronger than ever because death can't claim him. It's a big archetype in fantasy lit. Dog, I hope I'm write or if there ever has been a literary character who needs an ass-kicking south side Chicago style, it is Snape. But I am betting on this pony.

Sorry to hear you're in the Dumbledoldrums-heehee. I think everyone is right, all will be right and good in the next one.

I think it will be much more sad reading the next book and knowing that it is the last.

Have fun with your chores! Sometimes doing that type of work makes me feel productive.

I too am waiting for Ms. Rowling to redeem Snape somehow -- it seemed to be a "lesson" in Books 1 thru 5 that just because your teacher makes you work extraordinarily hard and you don't much like them, it doesn't mean that they are horrible, awful people. Harry has thought Snape to be horrible before.

As for Dumble -- I actually think he might be dead ... but will be happy to see him come back to life if it makes even the teensiest bit of sense. Will have to re-read the last few chapters of 'Half-Blood Prince' this week ...

Ah, yes, the old Harry Potter... Spouse and I argued about the finality of Dumbledore's death and the true character of Snape for months (OK, yes, I should have been focusing on getting a real job, but one has to prioritize). The consensus is that Dumbledore is likely gone for good -young Harry does need to learn he can't always be rescued, although I do like the Fawkes idea- but Snape is actually a sort of Judas character: what he did was horrible at the time but necessary in the grander scheme of things. I don't believe he is actually a traitor, and I agree with the other commenters that Dumbledore's trust in him is the clincher here. Can't wait for the last book!

We are now seeing the early stages of an eschatology for HarryPotterWorld developing.
I love it.

I hate, however, all forms of nationalism. It is a retrograde movement in the psyche, a faulty mechanism designed to create a corporate security out of an "Us against them" mentality.

I celebrate the people of the world.

Harry Potter 6 lies in virgin state in my backpack waiting to be read. On the ferry I overheard quite an excitable conversation regarding Dumbledore's demise and Phoenix rising from the ashes and other such philosophical musings. Back to work today for me :)

Hogwarts is a bore.
So Dumbledore bites the dust?
It's all for the best.
