Probably the last ND update

Spouse put the car to use right away and took the rest of nude dancer's belongings to an aid organization yesterday. We have been slowly getting rid of his things, dumping the junk and offering goods to others. The only thing left of his is a couple boxes of papers. The garage looks so spacious now!

So of course nude dancer calls yesterday evening. Comes out with a story of getting back on his feet, of gainful employment and a promise of money that he owes us. Serge was stern on the phone and stated that all his stuff is gone because we needed the space in the garage. "Everything? Even my photos?" he asked. "There are a few papers left, maybe the photos are there, I'm not sure," spouse replied. "Well I did have money to give you, but, well, okay" sighed nude dancer as he hung up. Spouse and I reminded each other all evening, "Do not feel guilty!" We waited well beyond a reasonable amount of time (7 months of his crap filling our garage) before finally ridding ourselves of the last of it. This all reminded me of something my grandpa used to say - a day late and a dollar short, because had nude dancer only called the previous day, he might have been able to get some of his belongings.

No, we do not feel guilty.

You absolutely shouldn't feel guilty but the whole situation makes me so sad.

If you two have any twinge of guilt at all, I'll come up there and personally beat you two senseless with my geezer walking stick! :)

You have no cause for guilt. If anything, perhaps you have been "teachers" to ND. I hope for his sake the lesson sticks.

Do not feel any guilt at all. You guys gave him every chance to make payments, pick up his items, etc; you went well beyond what a landlord should do. And ND? He never followed through on anything, just kept pulling your chain, as he was in yesterday's phone call.

Take a deep breath and move on.

I felt a twinge of badness, especially considering the sentimental value of photos. But if they were that important to ND, he wouldn't have left them to molder in your garage for 7 months. It is very sad, but he did this to himself.

Good for you! No guilt! If he even tries to send you on a guilt trip, you have easy responses: "Where were you for the past 7 months? You owe us money for overdue rent, and you owe us storage fees for the past 7 months."

I don't even throw my own stuff out, let alone someone else's. How much space could the damn stuff have been taking up? That's someone's life there, the dude had problems. What would Jesus do? Obviously not what you people did. :( Bad Karma to follow.

I hope you've seen the last of ND. If you had saved everything for him when he called he would still not have come to get anything. The pictures he was so concerned about might still be there. Did he rush over to see? If they were treasures he would not have left them 7 months. What would Jesus do? He would have ran ND out of town long ago with a cat-o-ninetails like he did in the Temple. No guilt feelings! I mean it!

Hopefully that will be the very last time you have to deal with ND ... unless he really does come by for his papers, which I doubt. The whole thing is very sad, but still you and Serge have been more than fair.

Doesn't it just crack you up when someone who's judgemental won't even leave his or her name?

Anonymous? It's lovely that you have so much extra room for someone else's things. Lucky you that you are above little things like the fact that ND never paid what he owed in back rent, that ND left a little cat with no food or water, that ND couldn't be bothered to collect his precious things for the last 7 months.

Bad Karma my ass.

And Jesus wasn't a doormat, thank you very much.

I think that Karma bitch-slapped ND, no worries about you. You rescued an abandoned animal, kept his stuff for a while (which you were not obligated to do) and then donated it to others who are less fortunate.

If ND loved those pictures that much, he wouldn't have left them. Also he probably wouldn't have given you all the money owed, and would have stood you up a few times or never showed at all anyways.

And Anonymous you're right. Jesus would probably not have thrown out ND's things. He had a fondness for hookers.

7 monthes is way above and beyond the call of duty...
And who's to say that just because he called that he's *really* in a position to make good. I would call it a stall tactic till cash was in hand.
Do not feel guilty.

(besides there is a medical diagnosis for people who can't bring themselves to throw stuff away... and meds!)

No need to feel guilty - you were more than fair and patient...

LOL@Normlr

You went above and beyond the call, so absolutely NO guilt is necessary.

Anonymous: Putting aside the fact that Wordo and spouse waited seven months, offered ever opportunity to ND to make good, and still never collected their money (a generous act in itself), doesn't Christianity ALSO espouse virtues like "do unto others...", not to mention taking personal responsibility for ones own actions?

ND was given every opportunity to do the right thing, and at the very least show that he genuinely wanted to make good. He took advantage, and he lost. Being charitable is one thing. Being taken advantage of by people whose motives are purely self-serving is a whole other story.

Everyone should operate from the same page of music and play by the same rules. Then it's fair and just for every one. He had his chance (numerous time) and chose not to take it. I believe that everyone should keep their own problems. No one else gets to own them. You boys are right on.

Maybe Anonymous is ND?

So who are you big meanies gonna pick on now? LMAO!

I think I'd feel guilty. But I'd still have done what you did. It's a lot easier to live with a little guilt than with a lot of some guy's junk.

Seems like I've been reading about nude dancer for ever. Eff him!

I figure if the damn photos were so important, he'd not have left them to begin with. WHAT-EVER!!! Fuck the whole guilt shit, I doubt he's feeling very damn guilty at all, if he were, he'd have paid you long ago, or at the very least, come for his things. I love it when mere mortals claim to know what Jesus would have done.

CoffeeDog said...

Count me in as one who would have thrown his shit out. You did all that you could do.

The other old saying is "Good riddance to bad rubbish"

Feel clean, baby. Feel it and be happy.

Jesus wouldn't hide under Anonymous! Bad Karma back at ya!

Bad Karma? LOL
If there were ever any negativity around, it was ND passing through your life babe! Bad Karma might just come back and bite 'anonymous' on his judgemental ass! You did the right thing, all the way!

Interesting that even though he said he had money, he wasn't interested in paying you unless he got something out of it. After all, he DID still owe you the money, didn't he? If he just wanted to make it right, as per his 12 step list, he would have offered to make installments until he had returned the rent he stole from you.
Tchah! Jesus would have kicked his butt.
