Blather

Oh look it's snowing again. Roofs are collapsing up here. All the schools were evacuated yesterday to clear snow off because some school roofs had more than 4 feet on top. On Thursday three people died in a roof collapse and yesterday a couple barely escaped with their lives as they sat down to eat and heard the ceiling crack, ran outside, and watched the roof plunge into the kitchen. Our roof is flat so it fills up to the lip and then the rest is blown off. Still it's a solid foot and a half up there. I've decided not to worry about it.

Here is a snow eater. The square yellow shaft on the side shoots the snow into a truck riding alongside the snow eater. It makes me shudder to think about getting chewed up by that thing.

It's a lazy puttery weekend. Maybe we'll head down to the Saint Patrick's day parade tomorrow. Supposed to be sunny and 32 degrees F. Practically tropical. Today's big goal is to bathe the dog, as it's been three months and she is starting to must. She hates bathing but tolerates it. Nothing else scintillating here, feel free to move on.

The snow eater looks dangerous. Small pets beware. They're going to have a parade with all that snow? Where will the spectators stand?
Sara enjoys her own smell and doesn't like the strong smell of soap since her ability to smell is 5 times better than yours. It's like holding a dryer sheet (Bounce) against your nose. 32 degrees is about right for now you don't want the melting to be too fast. Word verification: vmvmmsqr

Ya know, you Montrealers (?) ought to try exporting some of this snow. Shove it on a plane to like Miami, or Mexico, or Los Angeles, some place that doesnt get much snow. I bet they'd enjoy it a lot more than you do. :)

We reached 60F yesterday. It was glorious. Maybe that warm front is on its way to you.

Holy crap...I've never seen such a beast. Here in New England we've got just the regular old snow plows.

That's awful about the roof collapse from all the heavy snow. You're right, the snow eater looks like something from a Sci Fi film ... a giant mouth.

Chance of severe weather down South today. Atlanta has had a tornadoe in the downtown! The great springtime tug of war between winter and spring is upon us.

Enjoy your weekend, torn.

Indi gets a bath today, too. She doesn't mind them, and is beyond exhilarated afterwards. She literally sprints around and around the house for an hour after a bath. It's awful of me but I secretly think, "Ah, one less walk needed today, she's exhausted now."

Happy Weekend :)

We're melting like crazy here ... finally! Puddles and big piles of dirty snow everywhere. Not pretty, but I'll take it.

You must have heard about the Quebecer who listed his huge snowbank on eBay - and got bids up to $12,000.

That snowblower is a fierce-looking creature. As kids, we used to be terrified of them, but scared ourselves even further with a story (possibly an urban legend) of a child who had been eaten by one.

Snow actually brightens up the scenery here; usually it's just gray trees, gray lawns, gray skies. (And people wear black! I just don't get that part. Why not bright colors?)

We're at the northern end of Tornado Alley here. Spring definitely comes in like a lion.

The snow eater reminds me of those big giant human-eating worms in the Kevin Bacon movie "Tremors". Very freaky indeed!

I was watching the Montreal news and saw that the roofs were caving in. It's -16C here this morning with snow. Whatever.

Thinking of you guys (again!)....one snowfall after another after another after another....et. al. ad nauseum.

I'm so jealous! You have winters. I live in perpetual fall-like conditions... Rain and wind. That's about all I know.
Have a nice lazy saturday!

The snow eater looks like the "cleaner" from Labyrinth.

I didn't know they had cancelled school but that makes perfect sense. Those three deaths were so sad.

How old are your students? I'm asking because something from yesterday's blog is bothering me. A student gets up to politely and quietly leave the room and the teacher stops her and askes just where are you going? In grade school a child must raise their hand and ask permission to go to the bathroom which I always hated. In college one hopes that a quiet exit can be made without much notice. Ed

We got no snow this year. Today we had hail, heavy rain, a tornado warning (didn't hit us, don't know about anywhere else). The snow eater looks fascinating. It seems artistic in a geometrical sense.

Don't mean to worry you, but I'd send Serge up to the roof with a snow shovel if I were you. You don't want to risk a roof collapse. That could be quite inconvenient.
