Here's the back patio. We gave up long ago trying to keep the whole patio clear as there is no place to put the snow. Sara just has a small aisle to do her business in. Sometimes she tries to climb up the mountain of snow and do her business up there, but only if the snow has a hardened layer on top. I'm sure there are quite a few surprises in that mountain that will be revealed when it melts this spring.
What else? There's really little else to report. Everyone paid their rent yesterday and that makes me feel calm and secure. I'm taking the car in this morning to see about the power steering problem. (They told me if it needed parts they wouldn't be able to do it until Monday, so I decided to just bring it in today.) I also finished all the tax preparation and sent in the returns yesterday. I found a few more deductions like the Ipod. Now that I use it in class for the listening exercises, I can deduct the cost. I always stress about the validity of deductions but then I remember how little we make and think, "They're never going to audit such small potatoes as us." At least they never have yet.

I think the thoughts of spring have leaped into the front of all our minds this weekend. I've been thinking about it a great deal myself and hoping it would hurry itself along and finish up the battle with winter around this area in order to green the region up a bit.
Of course, spring does demand taxes as well... I'm dreading seeing what I owe this year.

You mean Canadians have to pay income taxes too? My sister said she is moving to Canada if Obama is elected President. It was 70 degrees here yesterday. Supposed to snow tomorrow night. My Spring bulbs are coming up and I saw a Robin and Sandhill Cranes yesterday. I have a bad case of Spring fever. Ed
Poor Sarah! I can't believe you posted a photo of her peeing. Give that doggy some dignity. Or perhaps she'd be proud.
Working from home, my accountant deducts things like furniture, bookcases, etc as "office supplies" We were even able to deduct all the work (new wood floors, trim, and painting) we had done to the room that is my office. We got a huge refund for that last year. This years was weak compared to last year.
The picture of Sara and the snow reminded me of a winter a few years ago during which I had to dig a "cave" in the snow for our 20 pound mutt to do her business.
Don't you just love deductions? Years ago, my accountant deducted a portion of my satellite TV because I said I watched National Geographic and the Nature channel as part of my work for two clients in the environmental sector. (Now, THAT's creative accounting!)
This year I don't have much in the way of creative deductions. :(
And maybe I'm weird, but I'm still loving winter. Then again, with no car or patio to shovel, I'm in the minority in many ways.
I wish I could write off my Ipod...
Poor ol' Sara. With her old bones and joints I bet she's going to like the warmth of Spring and Summer. My old dog looks for sunny spots to lie in.
It's been winterish again here for the last few days, no wonder my mood has gone to shit. *sigh*
I don't even want to think of the surprises I'll find this spring...I've only poop scooped once this winter.
Our snow shows some signs of melting today...
Shit happens. Even in the white snow, with a camera capturing the private moment. And then published on the WWW. Thanks daddy for helping me become famous. Love, Sara.
Thanks to the new government initiative to "keep kids active", I can now deduct all the costs of Dario's soccer, hockey and speed-skating lessons including all the equipment. Yay! I am getting a very nice refund this year.
In the past 24 hours we have accrued 20 more cms of the white stuff, and it's still snowing as I write this ... wet, heavy snow, too. The wee glimmer I had of spring last week has been obliterated.
The way taxes are set up in the USA -- aiding and abetting the rich -- is criminal.
And the creative ways we deal with it, imaginative deductions, often make us into criminals as well.
The whole thing is a joke.
My mom's dog does the same thing on snow, tries to walk over it. her legs fall through and then she stands there with one paw held up out of the snow, whining at us to help her out. And she does this EVERY time it snows.
Stupid dog. Dumber than a sack of hair, but we love her.
HUGS..
um, did sara consent to this personal pic?
Please take a photo in the spring when the snow melts and their are 89 poo logs on the patio!
Mark :-)
Ah... deductions. I question those too but I have a tax guy who's seems pretty on the ball. He'll tell me if something might look fishy.
Freeze-dried, er, nevermind. "'They're never going to audit such small potatoes as us.' At least they never have yet." Knock on wood!
Taxes and car repairs. Ugh. Those two things together totally freak me out.
