Pretty and evil

Hard to see it, but there's an arrow pointing out our home. I went out yesterday morning to snap a couple pics of the aftermath of Saturday's blizzard.

Here's the alley leading up to our garage which you can see at the far end. The snow dump was too voluminous to deal with the alleys. I pity the people whose cars are parked off the alley, they won't be getting out for days.

I shoveled the front and the patio, so Serge took charge of freeing the automobile. I felt bad for him so after this shot I got the other shovel and helped. We are not going to use the car today though for fear we'll lose our spot.

Our ninth major storm of the year. 8 out of 10 days in 2008 it has snowed. The citizens are weary of this.

Isn't it nuts?! 52 cm here. People here are rooting for 37cm more to break Ottawa's record of 444cm in a season. Personally, I don't care about records... although Montreal has 52 more to go for their record of 383 --We're gonna win!! Kidding, kidding.

Everybody's going on about "thank god it wasn't a workday", but my partner tried to bus it to the hospital yesterday (wait for a taxi was 2-4 hours) and the bus shelters were full of health care workers trying (and failing) to get to work (and goofballs trying to get to the airport--what were they thinking? Most flights were delayed or cancelled). We aren't planning on seeing our car for the rest of the month.

Wow. You got even more then us in this last storm. We got only a couple of cm before it turned to freezing rain and ice pellets - all of which was frozen solid by yesterday morning. Will make for good walking for a few days anyway (the crust is so hard you don't break through). Like you, we're looking forward to Italy in a few months.

Just a suggestion but maybe you should have turned south at California. Mexico would look real good right about know, no? Maybe even Belize. I think there is a couple of French speaking countries in South America. How much will you appreciate summer? I'll send a warm breeze your way to melt all the snow. Ed

Sorry to say, the same storm was 100 percent rain here in Halifax. You say 8 out of 10 days in 2008 have seen snow in Montreal? I believe it. I was there for 5 days in February and it snowed on at least 2 of those days. As for breaking records, it seems that it's been so bad this year that you might as well break it. And, by the way, notice that I'm not reminding you of your post when this year's first snow fell... :)

my favourite news from this snow storm is that sureté du québec had to abandon their cruisers and switch to snow mobiles.

seriously, that's the best, it was awesome, made me grin a lot. i mean, really, it sound totally fun.

Well, I see the street is clear, but who or what is there to drive on it? Are buses running?

Wow. That's a lot of snow. When you dig out a car along the road like this, where do you dump the snow? You can't toss it back into the road. And it looks just about as high on the other side of the cars.

Were I to move to the north I'd have a lot to get used to. Wow.

Did they just plow everyone in? That's frigging rude! You totally need a snowblower dude. I'd send you mine but I'm scared I may have to use it again this year! Sending you sunshine...

Your photos are awesome, and I am SO GLAD that I do not live in Montreal...at least in winter!

This is why I laugh when in Dallas people freak out when there's a mere dusting of snow. Hope you have a nice thaw.

Impressive pictures! Pretty much ditto on what it looks like here in Cleveland although already today we are thawing and I'd say we have lost about 3 inches of it. By the weekend, it should be a distant memory.

Wow! Those pics are amazing.

According to local folklore, real Montrealers will grumble about the weather amongst themselves, but never with outsiders. It's bad form. What's a little snow? What's a little cold?
This year I'm not recognizing us.

Good heavens!
And I thought Spokane was the far north!
Although we did have one bad blizzard this year.

We have already broken the record rainfall for the month of March. The last storm over the past few days dumped 3" of rain on us.

Curiously no flooding. It means the ground is warm enough so it seeps in and doesn't flood.

I'll take rain over snow any day.

I can't imagine how people get to work and how businesses like restaurants and dry cleaners survive with snowfall like this.

I feel for you boys!

Mark :-)

Look on the bright side...if it were warmer, we'd be complaining about global warming.
