Souvenirs

Here's another pic I found in the box of photos. It's a polaroid, taken at the Gay Pride festival in Long Beach California 11 years ago. That is not my hat. I don't remember why we had them on for the picture. It looks awkward holding cups of beer, I wonder why we didn't put them down for the photo. I remember that day though, that picture, how giggly and self conscious we were at the booth where they were giving out free polaroid souvenirs for signing some kind of petition. I remember thinking, "It's never going to happen, but the sentiment is nice." So prophetic that picture turned out to be though, because 7 years later it would be reality for us. Sadly, California, progressive as it is, has not made much forward movement on that front since.

That is such a special photo given how your story turned out! I love the fact you guys are still holding your beers. Classic.

Wonderful picture. Hillary Clinton visited my state recently and had a round table discussion. A young college student asked her what she would do to help the LGBT people. She made the student smile by saying she was all for equality and discrimination should be abolished. Just as quickly she wiped the smile off by adding I'm against Gay marriage. My question, how is that equal and not discriminating? Ed

That's a great picture.

We wouldn't have put our martini glasses down, either.

I think the beer cups go with the hats. Cute indeed!

Hey, there's nothing like the past to bring a smile or giggle, eh? And that damned gay marriage thing has brought up the worst in our lovely nation....worst of hatred and all of that. Even our seemingly innocent Domestic Partnerships are endangered in Oregon. I don't get it.

I love this shot. You didn't feel it necessary to make a goofy face in this one. You're both adorable. And yes, the beers totally close the deal.

You are looking at each other so adoringly, Mr and Mr Torn. Beer, top hats, Serge's hand resting tenderly against you. Wonderful.

You're sweetly sentimental lately! I love it!

Over ten years ago! 1997 seems like just yesterday.

I'm not sure one can call California progressive at this point... sigh.

Nice picture. Did S consent to be published?

Cute picture of you guys. Strange how in Canada some people were screaming that the country would fall apart if they did not stop gay marriage. Now no one thinks about it much any more, it is almost the 'in' thing to be invited to a gay wedding, those wacky straight people, ugh!

It's funny that you remember feeling self conscious because in the photo, it looks like the rest of the world disappeared for you guys. Very sweet.

I have a very similar photo of Spouse & me at Gay Pride DC in 1997. Like you, we agreed to sign a petition for gay marriage and got a free polaroid. Ah, good times!

Too bad the US is not as progressive as CA regarding gay marriage.

Mark :-)

I love that picture. You both look great in it, but Serge especially has that I-may-be-standing-here-wearing-a-silly-hat-and-awkwardly-holding-a-beer-but-I-don't-care-because-I'm-in-love-I'm-in-love-I'm-in-love-I'm-in-love-I'm-in-love-with-a-wonderful-guy expression that makes him even more handsome.

By the way, that hat may be too small for you, but you are really working that tank.

Holding the beers in the picture is just as classy as when people dance holding beers. Or when they set the beer down and then dance around it on the floor...kind of like the famous "purse dance". I'm probably the only one who notices these things though.

Aren't those groom hats?

You guys look great together! I suggest a new shoot every 10 years or so.
