Our latest appearance

We were on tv as I mentioned a couple days ago. We both hate watching ourselves and think the other looks just great. I think I look like a pompous windbag, even in French. When I told Serge that, he said, "But you are like that." I guess I should own my pomposity. Of course they used one part where I totally used the wrong word for access and it makes me cringe terribly. Anyway, most of y'all won't understand any of it, but if you're interested in seeing us and clips of the wedding, go ahead and watch:

I'm still working my no smoking program, here's my latest stats:

Time smoke-free: 22 days, 9 hours, 30 minutes
Cigarettes not smoked: 680
Lifetime saved: 5 days 4 hours
Money saved: $116.50

i found it yesterday on the radio canada site--it come across just fine (although, i must admit, the quebecois accent always throws me off after years of living in france--so i didn't understand everything y'all were saying).

just the same--it appeared tob e a nice piece!

HUGS...

I'll have to watch the video from home too. Keep up the good work with the non-smoking! Will you buy yourself a little reward with the money you're saving? I know I would. Actually, I'd probably buy myself a big reward.

*smooches*

Nice. You guys were great, even if I couldn't understand a thing you were saying.

Thumbs-up on your accent quebecois. Do you do joual as well?

You two looked wonderful and were certainly the stars of the show.

What I found interesting is you using the Gallic shrug when you're speaking French. Do they teach that in the French language classes?

Greg said...

The shrug is Gallic? Who knew...

Congratulations on your continuing success over the nasty Nicodemon. You've extended your life for as long as I've been not smoking now!!

You guys look great in the video, and maybe it comes with understanding the language better, but you don't come off as all that pompous. ; )

How exciting to save over $100 in just 22 days! Congratulations!

Did you speak the language pre-Serge? Sadly, I understood little from my high school French.

You guys looked great. I looked for Sara and thought I saw her in front of the couch. She must be camera shy.

They put that together quite nicely and I didn't find you pompous at all, perhaps because I'm so pompous myself. Ha! Does pompous in French translate to stoned in English? Congrats on 23 days!

It's great that you have this on a video for your memories. Again, congratulations on your not smoking, you are to be commended.

So what are you going to do with the saved bucks? Are you saving them? Are you replacing it with something else? When I quit, we were then able to afford for Em and Derwood to take Taekwondo lessons. I like to think of their blackbelts as my gift to them.

Speaking of belts, the one the interviewer was wearing was gigantic! Almost as wide as those strappy roman sandals she was wearing. Wow!

For a short entry, and given that I don't speak a word of French, there are still so many things for me to comment on.

-- I Heart Pierre Trudeau

-- You Two Looked Great!

-- Congrats on getting so far without smoking!

-- I find that you can switch out the word "pomposity" for "gravitas" and you feel much better about yourself.

Wow, that is really exciting! Would you mind translating into English the parts where you and Serge speak? You both look great!

Again, CONGRATS on the non-smoking success! I'm so, so proud of you.

Mark :-)

Ever since I started reading your blog, I've been curious about how you spoke French. Although I didn't understand a word, you seem fairly comfortable with the language.

I thought you both were very well represented in the TV spot.

CONGRATULATIONS on your continued no-smoking campaign! Best wishes for longevity!

You're both fine on that video. As expected, your French accent in Montréal Québécois, which is fine. As you know, there are several Québécois accents, not to mention my own Acadian/semi-Québécois lilt.

By the way, kudos on the non-smoking success so far. I should seriously (re)consider the same for myself. *sigh*

Thank you so much for sharing the video with those of us who would not otherwise have seen it. Of course, I am again cursing the fact that I do not speak/understand French!

Given that I do not speak French, I watched the video per body language, etc. I enjoyed seeing the clips from your wedding. Were you one of the first? I did not sense from the body language that you were being pompous. What I gathered is that they were presenting your marriage as quite "normal" and your life together as not at all exceptional - just like any other marriage. Was I far off course?

Hey. I wish I could see more of your wedding video. You guys look very cute

Congratulations, you non-smoker, you!

Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. I didn't understand a word either, sadly.

I do have a couple of questions though... (I think with all the questions here, you'll have a great subject for a new post!)

1.) What language do you two speak (mostly) at home when it's just the two of you?

2.) Do you dream in English or now French?

You two should be very proud of yourselves... and you're now famous!!

I will always covet your hairline.

Hey TankM, I thought that an accent quebecois and joual were the same thing. I learned only enough to get me through the coatcheck at the old KOX. It was pronounced "vesteeeye".

dykewife said...

awwwww! you look so cute together.

i couldn't hear it very well, my hearing merged a lot of the voices into a slur.

that shot of trudeau debating, was that when he said that the state had no business in the bedrooms of the nation?

Pas "pompus" mais, tu as l'air tres serieux:) ChristopherYVR

You both looked great, but most of poor Serge got left on the cutting room floor, it seems.

Still, your French seemed good, though I'm no Spanish teacher.

Congrats on the non-smoking. Soon, you'll have the powers of smelling a cigarette on the street from 300 feet. It's an odd power, but there you go.

Peace.

That was such a nice treat to watch! you guys look just as fabulous now as you did then, and I had a little tear of nostalgia as I was watching all the way from East Timor. Thanks giving me some nice images and memories from home; it'll help to keep me going.

I understood a word of it. I heard "avec" and I know that one!!! But that's about it. The oriental gent, is he a native French speaker, or is French a second language for him, too. I can't tell from accents in a language I don't know.
The old black and white footage was strange. Not knowing Canadian political history I didn't recongnize Trudeau. To me it looked like the video cut to some old court room drama movie in the middle of your interview.
I like Gayprof's angle. Rename "pomposity" to "gravitas" and it sounds so much better.

Everyone looks pompous when speaking french! French = pompous

I loved seeing you guys!

I need to come to Montreal to practice my french, because with the deflated dollar I may never make it to France.

Pomposity? It's my new word of the day. You boys looked hot and sexy!

Curtis said...

This is so wonderful. I long to be able to marry my partner of 10 years now someday.

Someday.

But everything was in French. What's up with that?!?;-)

Jess said...

You guys looked wonderful! Thank you for posting that!

And congrats on staying off the cigarettes. Not easy, but worth it!

Sooo-this-is-me said...

Okay you both looked really hot so what is the worry? Dang you came from the U.S and speak french that well already? Bagged a french man myself now, although Franco-Ontarian, so hopefully I'll brush up on my French.
