Blizzard and shame

There's a blizzard going on this morning. I was giddy about its impendingness all day yesterday. In preparation, we put the car in the garage last night for the first time. It fits! That's the good news, the bad news is that there is about an inch of clearance with the side mirrors. Serge has predicted that I will lop one of them off. It won't be today though. Today, we'll be taking public transportation although I see a huddle of people waiting at the stop across the street for the bus that never comes. It looks like we'll have a foot of snow by this afternoon, so travel will be an adventure. I'm fairly certain this year's Christmas will be white.

Yesterday afternoon, we went over the river to Dan's house for a tree trimming party. The tree is huge, like 12 feet. It looks better without the flash but then the pics come out blurry. Everything was going fine at the gathering until I spilled my beer on the carpet. Spouse was clucking his disappointment and acting all embarrassed about my clumsiness. I felt like a little kid who had soiled his pants. Shame. Dan was very nice about it, admonishing spouse as he railed against me,"It was an accident." Ah well, when you get me, you get the bull in a china shop too, it's just a package deal that way.

Your "crime" was not intentional and you regretted the consequences. Let Dan erase your shame with forgiveness, for that's what friends do. Would you do any less?

Have a hot chocolate and watch the snow fall.

I have that same red chair here in my study! Same blocky wooden feet, same arms. :-)

Mrs Coffeedog is clumsy too, and a mess pot. A clumsy mess pot, and I still love her.

It's not like you spilled red wine. It happens.

There's snow in Toronto as well! I'm so excited.

That is a handsome tree. Don't cry over spilled beer. It could have been worse. It could have been Red Wine.
We are having a cold spell too. It is supposed to warm up by the end of the month and melt all the snow. If you want to see a white Christmas you'll have to move farther north. Ed

A foot of snow? I'd be all giddy about that too....until it came time to shovel out my car, or to try to drive it somewhere.

A white Christmas....how nice that would be.

HUGS...

It's snowing here too but not like up north. In the whole scheme of things a little spilled beer is nothing. 26 yearss ago when my husband and I were first dating my parents got new carpet. First day it was installed we were over and he spilled beer on it. They still liked him. :)

The tree and home look splendid indeed! I would love to see that room in person one day, it looks captivating.

As for spilling the beer; you're better man then I. I would have just poured it out and asked for the good wine! If you had spilled some port, that would have been sinful and I too would have to admonish you, but it was just beer. No tears for beer!

i can't get past the visual of the car wedged into the garage. i know you guys are nice and trim but how in the world do you get in and out?

One of the moments from my childhood of deepest shame is the Christmas I was at my ["rich"] uncle's home. He and his wife had just installed new carpet. My cousin and I were carrying our treats (ice cream with chocolate syrup) through the living room when I stumbled and spilled mine all over the new carpet. It was my parents, not Spouse, who berated me for my clumsiness.

The tree looks great.

Beer doesn't stain. Besides, everybody spills something at some point.

My hubby has done that, but with red wine. It was hilarious. No clucking from me, because he basically hosed down with red wine an aunt of mine who I really don't like. I loved it.

I feel your pain, Torn -- I'm the guy that spills things, knocks things over, and/or breaks things too.

There's something so exciting and romantic about a blizzard...until you have to go out in it the next day.

I think getting a bull like you would be worth all the spilled beer in the world.

That sentence made more sense in my head. But you get the idea.

Don't make me think about the weather and really shitty drivers...

Ok, you just did.

I'm with the folks above; it wasn't red wine... beer is cleaned up pretty quicklike.

Lovely lovely tree.

I don't know if I'm even going to decorate this year. I'd have to clean first and well, you know how I am about cleaning.

I've been thinking of you with the blizzard; it's been on all the news this morning.

Wow, Dan has a nice tree.

Wouldn't it be great if that shame could disappear?

em, who hates blogger.

Serge actually sounds like he looks forward to accidents - always a good spirit because knowing humans there is bound to be one. Bummer about the spill as I hate doing that too, you think it will be all they remember next time they think of you - but probably they are too busy dropping things themselves.

It is presently -29 degrees here with the wind chill factor. For the first time I am worried about skin exposure ....dashing with my kidlets from warmth to truck in record speed. The snow looks beautiful, though. Wood floors are so much easier on spills. I hate to think what my house would like if I had the main areas carpeted! This is my first blog comment in ten days. I feel like I have emerged from a coccoon!

Really? "Spouse was clucking his disappointment and acting all embarrassed about my clumsiness. I felt like a little kid who had soiled his pants." I realize I've never met him in person, but from the way you usually talk about him, this doesn't sound like Serge. Maybe he was having PMS?

Mark :-)

Can you fold the side mirrors in? I had a truck a long time ago with folding mirrors. I didn't know they forlded until I parked in someone's garage and ouila!

I'm glad Dan was cool - accidents happen to everyone. Serge lost a cool point for stressing out.

Somehow this blizzard completely missed us, they got it west of us, east of us and north of us...we got flurries. And wind! It is literally howling out there as I type. Stay warm!

We got a dusting of snow here in Rhode Island. I've even got video of the snow falling. But this morning it was raining. So now accumulation.

Spilling is part of human nature. So is embarrassment, on partners AND perpetrators.

If it had been ME, it would have been red wine!

I still miss the occasional snow we got when I lived in the mountains. Of course it doesn't compare to your winters. burrrrrr!
