Rambling

Last night I turned to Serge after I had been humming a bit and said, "It takes about a half a martini before I start to sing." He responded, "I know, it's annoying." This charmed me so I said, "It's also about that time I want to come over and give you a hug and pet you." He replied, "I know, and it's REALLY annoying."

Of course I had been haunting the Quitnet just before that. I love that there's a support group for this on the net. There was a thread about what addictions have replaced smoking and mine are Tootsie pops (though I'm down to two a day from 6) and long long walks and my daily meditation. It's weird, last summer was all about the bike and this year it's all about the walking. I haven't ridden the bike in 2008. Idiosyncratic comes to mind.

Actually I spent a lot of yesterday on the internet. It kept threatening to rain and we even had a waterspout near us yesterday. Serge said he had never heard of that happening here before. See the story and pic here. It's been stormy for days now, big thundery cloudburst weather. It's supposed to continue through the weekend. We have had more thunderstorms this week than I had in my ENTIRE 35 years of living in Southern California. Clearly I was born in the wrong spot because I think I feel the most alive, the most me, when my eyes are riveted skyward and the lady in the sky is dancing.

I think you should add one more "long" to the sentence about walks. You'd love it down here during a hurricane, it's like the lady in the sky dancing on X, heroin, and meth combined! Truly a sight to see!

How could Serge be annoyed by hugging and petting? I'd give my left nut to be hugged and petted. It seems that lately all of the storms have high winds and Tornadoes, I guess the lady in the sky can be a Bitch sometimes. ed

Hurricane Dolly touched land yesterday-- Hello, Dolly!-- and we had some wind and rain up here in Austin, but nothing to satisfy R and his quest for the greenest grass in the neighborhood.

It usually takes a half a martini to make me slur.

I love that wild energy of a storm. It's great that you get to experience that often now.

Maybe it is because you grew up in an area with relatively consistent weather that you enjoy the turbulent skies more. This doesn't seem to be the case for snow, though.

Love the retorts from your hubby.

We are in our "dry season" here in the Northwest and this is a much cooler week we are experiencing as well. I don't mind since I start wilting in the low 70s F. (low 20s C.) I love the rain and love thunder storms when they occur here. I've seen a few waterspouts and have seen more tornados when I lived in the Mid-west.

Of course, you are familiar with earthquakes, being from California, and since we've been in the Northwest, I've experienced an handful of them.
Moral? You live long enough and move around enough and you're bound to experience all of these at one time or another. ;-)

Congratulations on your staying away from the cigarettes.

Call me stupid (go ahead, I'll wait) but I've never heard of a waterspout before. Other than the pipe that runs alongside the house, carrying water from the gutters.

I learned something new today. Along with the fact that if I ever meet you, I'm going to greet you with a martini and then wait to be sung to.

Great job with the not smoking!
I developed an addiction to popsicles. Now it just looks like i'm wearing lipstick...

Bizarre weather is happening more and more.

I need to spend time outside today. It's beautiful here this week. Summer will be over in about ten minutes, and then I'll be whining about snow again.

My replacement was Scotch Mints. I used to fill my cheeks with them.

I love that last sentence. It made me smile because I could have written it myself. I miss those storms.

Loving that last sentence here, too. That's some waterspout...I bet that was fun for traffic at the tunnel-bridge.

Kind of makes you want to treat the itsy-bitsy spider with a little more respect, don't it?

How many before you call it a martooni...?

Oh, I almost forgot: no Tootsies here: Creme de Menthe Altoids!!

I absolutely adore the conversations between you and Spouse that you've shared recently. I bet others do, too.

More congrats on your continuing success at being smoke-free! Enjoy those walks.

Mark :-)

The lady in the sky was at my house two nights ago. A lightning bolt cracked like a cannon so close that my ears are literally still ringing two days later. Doctor hopes that it will fade with time. Wow.

Your married banter sounds alot like mine. Big grin.

i love thunderstorms and the aurora. there's nothing more beautiful to me than mother nature showing her passion and art with lightening and the dance of the northern lights.

I love the sky in the same way as you and Em do. It mesmerizes me, and the more that is going on up there, the better. That's an amazing photo, wow. I can imagine Serge finds it all "very annoying" wink wink nudge nudge, is that his cute little attempt at playing hard to get with you?? I am proud of you with the whole quitting the poison thing!!

I'm loving these stormy summers too.

Funny about the waterspout. They captured footage of one that started in Narragansett Bay and then moved onto land. The National Weather Service confirmed it was a tornado.

We don't generally get tornadoes in Rhode Island.

On the right hand side of the picture at the link you can clearly see a cone forming.
