Boring weekend update

It's been like autumn all weekend. I actually cranked up the heat (much to spouse's displeasure) and it's the middle of August. I think I used the air conditioner 4 days this season. We usually have a good hot spell in September so maybe this is just an early taste of fall.

We did very little this weekend. We spent a few hours Saturday morning collecting the money from the donation parking meters. It's pretty impressive that almost a grand a week is being put into the meters. Yesterday, the highlight of the day was walking down the street for breakfast where I had my usual eggs benedict.

I've also been tracking the hurricane in the Caribbean. I love watching the satellite images and seeing the progression of the storm. It's like a spinning top, or, a whirlpool in the bathtub drain. I like to watch it here. (click on all 109 images at the bottom and then press play.) It looks like Jamaica got whacked good yesterday.

It is still hot and dry here. I have to water my garden every day. I love hot weather but would like some rain. I don't have air conditioning. I was born in August, that may be why I like hot weather. I hate ice and snow after being trapped indoors for several weeks during the Blizzard of 1978. Food was running low and tempers were high.

We stormed here all weekend, too ... although nothing of that magnitude. That's awesome imagery in the video.

Eggs benedict ... Mmmmmm! I just finished turning up the heat to take the chill out of the house. Who would have believed it in August! Still, me being me, I much prefer the cooler temperature to the suffocatingly, nauseating heat we had for a few weeks last month.

John and I spent a quiet weekend here in Newfoundland, also. No eggs benedict for us, but we did enjoy some fresh cod. One of the things I love about this province is the variety and abundance of fresh seafood.

I love the colder weather.

I can't bear to watch the hurricane. It's always the poor who are hit the hardest.

I rarher enjoyed the cooler, sunny weather. A little unexpected for august, but pleasant nonetheless.

Glad you love watching the hurricane. For those of us about to get hit, it isn't quite so much fun! I live 50 yards in front of the Caribbean on an island just off the coast of Cancun. Scary times ahead today!

I thought you guys were just painting the meters? Is it your job to collect the money each week too? Are you all still contracted to the city for this?

It's been a hot couple of days here. No air conditioning here, but I'd be using it all the time if I did.

I've been watching the satellite imagery from the storm too...I'll check out the ones you linked.
We wore light jackets all weekend here too. And I joked about turning on the furnace. Weird and wild!

It's colder than a whore's heart here, but I'm loving it! I love the fall!

I get a kick out of the pleasure you get from the storms.

While many places in Canada (including here in NL) are enjoying cooler weather, my parents down in North Carolina tell me they are in the third week of 95-105 degree weather, which has broken all records ever set for heat in that state. It's also not rained where they live in nearly a month!

We have been getting lots of rain (which is good, because I still have not bought a sprinkler or a hose for the house). It has also been chilly, but it is supposed to get hot again by mid week (which will also be really humid, I imagine, thanks to all of the rain).

Like Rebekah, I didn't know that you would have an ongoing relationship with the meters. I thought it was just about painting them.

i've never understood those weather map thingies. It just sort of starts for a second then stops like in a jerky motion then starts the same thing over and over. They show the same thing on tv all the time. Its like a 3 second storm and a puzzle to me why anyone would want to watch this. It dosnt impress me at all. Do you know any site that actually shows it? You know, like for real? a real film?
