Weekend update

We watched three movies over the weekend - Babel, Borat and Shortbus. By far, we liked Shortbus best. Have you seen this film? I have a feeling it's not the kind of thing you'll find at Blockbuster or Walmart because it's full of evil, evil sex. Before we watched it, I asked our friend Dan what it was about. He said, "It's about a sex therapist and a gay couple." And I have to say that he was right. However, it was so much more. The best way that I can put it is that it was raunchy, yet deep.

Yesterday, after a marvelous breakfast outside at the marina with mother in-law, we hit the garden centers of HomeDepot and its competitors. It's get-the-garden-together weekend and we did just that. I've got rosemary, thyme, oregano, mint and something else I've already forgotten. You know the pointsettia that you buy for Christmastime from the supermarket? Yeah, ours never died. So I put it into a bigger pot. It'll probably die now, lol . I'm hoping it lives to see another Christmas.

Saturday night we barbequed horse and kangaroo. I had nothing to do with these purchases. I did eat them though and thought, "why didn't we just get a regular steak?" I did have something to do with the dessert. Earlier in the day, I whipped up a batch of banana-nut bread and banana-walnut ice cream. A warm slice of the former topped by a scoop of the latter was divine after dinner. Even so, my innards weren't so thrilled with the meat and banana overload.

Horse? I don't that if I knew hat it was before I tried it, I could bring myself to eat it I'd rather see them racing.

They sell kangaroo meat in Canada? Or horse for that matter? I think I would just have stuck to the dessert

The meat called beef in the US is actually often Horsemeat from Australia. I used to work at a grocery store and all of their Hamburger was Horsemeat.
The Poinsettia will never bloom again unless it has exactly 12 hours of daylight in the Fall. I got one to bloom once by placing a paper sack over it after 12 hours. It can't have any artifical light either except to help make the 12 hours. Good Luck.

What about Parsley and Sage? How can you go to Scarborough Fair without those?!

Horse?! I mean, deer yes, but HORSE?!

There are ways of keeping a Pointsetta plant alive year round and I think Ed is right. It involves a sack and the right amount of TLC. Better if they die actually!

I haven't seen any of those films but I am intrigued by Shortbus. I will look for it.

Do horse or 'roo taste like chicken? I think the most unusual meats I've had in my mouth (I know what you're thinking) are moose and caribou.

Moviewise, I went to the theatre and saw 'Pirates of the Caribbean: at world's end' on Saturday. Arr, what a delightful movie; it really ties the previous movies, in the trilogy, together.

I don't know that I could eat Black Beauty, or Kanga's baby for that matter-haha. What did they taste like? The dessert sounds absolutely smashing though. I would have skipped the beasts and gone straight for the sweet stuff. YUM! I love Chunks reference to Scarborough Fair!! Triple harhar!

I've got a poinsettia that will see its eleventh winter this year. And it's been blooming for the past several. I've got it in a north-facing window in my office/personal space room, which never sees unnatural light other than the soft glow from the computer monitor.

Once you've gotten them to their first spring, they're not so easy to kill.

i saw that in the theater with a bunch of people, it was PORN, and i loved it... deep porn... lol... lots of stiffies in the audience i'm sure, mine included...

i LOVED Shortbus! yeah, it's got a lot of sex in it, explicit sex, but ulitmately, isn't more about people trying to connect in the city? Build relationships and bonds with each other.

BUt I guess first you've got to get beyond the sex. :)

I am impressed by Earl's Poinsettia (named for the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico in the early nineteenth century, don't you know? I know: True, but dull). Annnyway, I never got one to live past a year.

In general, I miss gardening. Sounds like a good weekend.

If you happen to live an in area or office that has 12 hours of light each day I'm sure a Poinsettia will do fine. Otherwise they do make a nice large green plant, and no they are not poisonous although you wouldn't want to make a salad out of one. LOL.

Poinsettias grow like crazy here in Santa Barbara. There's one that's against an old barn that's still going strong; and I remember first seeing it when I was just starting teaching, so it's at least 10 years old.

I've already had my say about Shortbus. The stalker guy being a sympathetic character just creeped me out.

Shortbus brilliant! Poinsettas grow wild here in Australia. Wallaby is a better meat than Kangaroo. Horsemeat just wrong. Venison better!

I think you boys up north had WAY too long of a winter.....horse and Kangaroo? You're not well....at all. Ick.
Hubby saw Short Bus and loved it. We both saw Borat....weird, wild, okay.....plenty of laughs.

I've never eaten horsemeat, even though I'm told it's very common in some places.
But the 'nana bread sounds awesome.

Shortbus is an amazing movie.

The last time I made banana walnut bread ( a few months ago), I ate the entire thing in one evening. I've never thought of pairing it with ice-cream ... Mmmmm!

You're brave. I tried horse once and will never forget it (not in a good way).

I think I'll leave the kangaroos alone too.

dessert, however, sounded divine.

We got Shortbus from Netflix this week but I have not yet watched it. Joel said it was pretty much X rated with a plot. Now I can't wait to see it however the kids are here this week so I think maybe I will wait!

I have to see Shortbus. I think I am the only gay in NYC who has not yet seen it.

Kangaroo? I don't want to know. Big drumsticks, I bet.
