Three whys

Why is it that a majority of men face away from the showerhead when taking a shower, while the majority of women tend to face the showerhead? Furthermore, why was it important to telephone 1000 people to survey them on such things. But this just really stumps me, that there is a different tendency, and what possible reason there could be for it. We all turn in the shower (unless you take baths of course) but have a preferred resting position. I face away. I don't know why. (You can see some other results of the survey here.)

Why do people stop walking when they get on the "down" escalator? It's not a ride, people. And unless you're wielding a cane or your age is approaching that of hills, why would you stop? How hard is it to walk down the stairs of the escalator? Would you never walk if the sidewalks were moving? I bristle at laziness such as this. Unless you have another explanation?

Why is it that people are so attracted by all the things our new electronic gadgets can do, even though they never fully learned to use the thing it replaced? And moreover, why the attraction to these new things? I mean "progress" is a whole litany of inventions that have taken effort out of everything. With each new gadget, some mental or physical task is rendered easier. All we're doing is enabling ourselves to become dumber and lazier. No wonder obesity is a problem and Bush is in the White House. What progress!

Today's mood: prickly

The shower thing is interesting. The few times a man has been in my shower, he's usually facing me...

ah... that was a long time ago.

The escalator thing? You must bristle when you're with me. Whenever I have the lazy choice, I take it. Hence, your thinness and my thickness.

And the technology thing? I have another take on it. It seems to me that new technology (at least at work) just gives me more things to do. Now I don't only call home, I have to email weekly reports home too. I have to post grades online once a week. I can't give my principal a quick call or a quick note, I have to email him lesson plans now.

oi.

The whole idea of "progress" has bugged me for some time. Put most of us in a perfectly plentiful natural area and we would perish.

Seems we just keep getting dumber.

Ah, youth. Escalators provide moments of bliss for the knees.

Where is the facing/facing away nugget in that Olay press release? I am usually in and out of the shower in less time than it takes to get the temperature right, which sort of keeps me facing the shower head. I love cleanliness, but I can't wait to get out of the shower and into fresh clothes!
