The first real snow of the season occurred yesterday. And we got more than they forecast which is a bonus. It was the perfect weather for holiday decorating. I sang "my favorite things" as I walked to the other place to pick up rent checks. Snowflakes were, after all, sticking to my nose and eyelashes. And the whole world is muffled when it's snowing. Even the cars passing on the street are quiet mumbles. It was rather magical. ( Come February, it'll be evil, but for now....)
I can't seem to get an unblurry shot of the tree. Must be something about the shiny ornaments messing up the autofocus mechanism. I even tried the tripod. Sure you can use the manual focus controls on the camera, but that would require the effort of finding and reading the novel sized guide with instructions. We bought the tree already bound up with wire, so it was a crap shoot as to whether it would look good when we got it home and "opened" it up. As it turned out, I couldn't have asked for more in the symmetry/straight department. And there's no big holes either. Just perfect.
After decorating, I had a chat with Rebekah via Skype. The conversation turned humorous when Serge started butting in so I picked up the camera and taped it. It was quite a long video, so I've only uploaded the first two minutes.
She goes on to show us the garments she plans to send us for Christmas, all of which, Serge approves of. And we laugh, laugh, laugh.

Oh NO! I missed it. It says This Video no longer available. Beautiful tree, you had it professionally decorated didn't you? The snow is peaceful and covers the world with purity and white. These are a few of my favorite things.
I just uploaded the video, it may take a little while before it's available.
I have to wait for later to see the video too as it hasn't shown up yet. I love the first snowfall as well. Of course Toronto is still as dry as a bone. However, I leave today for a bit to go and work up north.
How beautiful... it was 83 here yesterday... doens't really make you want to put up a tree... the snow so peaceful!
The snow missed us. Darn!
I got a chuckle out of your singing "My Favorite Things" while picking up rent checks. Of course! :)
It's still a nice pic of the tree! We have to clean up the clutter before I can take any pics.
Just watched the Video! So nice of Becky to give you approval before sending gifts. I loved hearing you guys laugh. I hope Serge models some of the clothes for us. Have a great day guys!
beautiful tree!
Merry Christmas!
I had the same problem with my camera and Xmass tree. Has to be the lights messing with the auto focus.
It look's great in any case!
:)
Sounds like a great day. Except for the snow, I can't stand it!
Everything met with approval, I might add.
Okay, that's it, I'm now going to have to shower and do my hair before any more skype calls.
Wonderful pics of your tree and snowfall. Such warm holiday cheer!
The tree looks beautiful! It sounds like we're due for some snow here by Friday, so that should put me in a decorating mood. Sounds like you even enjoyed collecting the rent cheques!
Your tree is absolutely beautiful!
Lots of snow here in Barrie this morning. Hubby is putting the snow tires on the car today!

I am the typical Southerner in terms of snow, scared stiff when the first snowflakes start falling. The bf LOVES snow, even relishes driving in it.
Me, I prepare to hunker down in the apt until every scant flake has melted from the grass. That means I join the herds at the local grocery store, picking through the few loaves of bread and peanut butter left on the shelf.
Your tree is beautful! I like to take a pic of my lit Christmas tree with all other lighting turned off in the house. Try that...it looks surreal.
All the best.
It was fun watching the three of you interact.
I love the tree. I also love snow -- if I can stay indoors and watch it from a window.
at least rebekah is a good sport about it. i would've cut him off for good. :)
Okay, I am going out on a limb, what is this Skype thing?! Rebekah sounds just like I thought she would!! Serge cracks me up, I love how he shoots from the hip. When my tree is done (if ever) I will also post pics. Um, guess what? It's snowing here AGAIN. Looks great until you have to shovel it. Oh well. Great post!
we never get snow !!! but i bet it is a bitch when you've had it for months!!! just typing that makes me what to go to the beach!!!
We were promised a little snow but is was a no-show.
Must be magical to have a white Christmas, rather than the crazy sweltering ones over here. *jealous*
Your tree looks beautiful, even with the slight blurriness. I would have liked to have seen these clothes that Rebekah got for Serge though ...
Ahh, you are all holly and jolly with the snow and all that.
And how much do I love that you are filming a conversation that you had with someone on a computer and then posting it back on the computer? It's all so ridiculously modern I can hardly stand it.
You should treat yourself to a Sound of music weekend here, and meet the "real" Maria! I've always wanted to go - and it's only a couple hours from you. We should plan a late winter fun weekend with Maria ans lots of schnaps!
gorgeous tree, and nice pics from Friday btw.
Beautiful tree. I think lit Christmas trees are magical.

You definitely need a tripod when taking pictures in low light. The camera will keep the shutter open longer to get enough light for the picture. Consequently you can't move it at all or it will blur. Best way to do it is set it on the tripod and put it on the timer. That way the camera doesn't shake from pushing the button.
It's a very beautiful tree.
what a cliffhanger! i wanted to see serge's reaction.
and yeah, like dawn, i love that you videotaped a virtual conversation and then posted it online. way cool.
