Picture day

As I headed out yesterday in the snow, I decided to take some pics. It has been a while since I've posted any pictures. This is outside Bonaventure metro station. The storm was just beginning. We got 6 inches by the end of the day.

The metro seemed eerily uncrowded after my class at 10:30 in the morning.

Outside Prefontaine metro station, you see a familiar brand. Perhaps the letters seem wrong to you. They're not. It's Poulet Frit Kentucky.

The fire hydrants stand out like cherries on a sundae.

This 24 hour resto near our house has some tacky tropical displays outside. The tree is not real.

Here's the train tracks I cross over to get to and from the metro. I always stop and look for a bit. You really can't see far when it's snowing out.

I got home and skyped mom in California. She got the kids up on her lap so I could see them. Almost like being there. You can click pics for larger versions.

Oh dang, torn, it looks brutally cold in Montreal.
The fake palm tree is sooo bad.
Great pic of your mom and the kids!

poulet frit kentucky sounds so much better than kentucky fried chicken, and your siblings are adorable!! how's sarah?

Wonderful Pictures, Torn. Doesn't that sign translate to Chicken Fried Kentucky? Those of us who live just North of Kentucky would like to fry them sometimes. By the way Colonel Sanders the man who started KFC was born in Indiana.
So you got 6 inches by the end of the day, lucky you. I hope to get the same tonight, but I hope it doesn't snow. ;) Ed

What kind of restaurant puts a fake palm in their front yard?

There is a sick part of me that LOVES tackiness, so next time I'm in Montreal, show me to that restaurant. I bet they put umbrellas in the drinks too.

My son wants snow so bad. Ah, the youth.

I sometimes miss the snow, but not after those pics. That palm tree looks ominous.

Hi Mom!

The people I work with used to rave about the pizza at that 24hr joint. Maybe I have high standards, but I really didn't think it was anything special.

I find that "boat" that they installed in front to be kinda funny. It looks normal from the side, but it's waffer thin from the front. It kinda surprises you as you drive by. I've always wanted to get a shot of it.

Thank you for the pic of the tracks. That's my marker right there. It isn't as pretty or as interesting as the other shots, but for some reason those tracks resonate with me.
Strange seeing a snow covered palm tree in your snowy city!

Thanks for posting your family recipe for tuna casserole. I plan to make it this Saturday. Am wondering if you omitted one ingredient - milk. Seens it would be rather dry without it. Also, your mom's "kids" are adoraqble.

Is the place with the palm tree banking on people wanting to pretend they aren't living in a winter wonderland?

WOW! I'm glad you cleared up the question about the palm tree being fake; it looks so realistic in the snow. (as my keyboard is wiped up from the dripping sarcasm I drooled to be first to make this comment!)

I always enjoy your picture page days as it affords me the opportunity to case out a town I really want to get up to visit sometime in the not so distant future.

No storm at "La Tuque" .

The snow is pretty - even on the not-tacky-in-my-opinion palm tree.

We also have an Inn/restaurant here that has a fake palm tree decor. It also features wait staff in Hawaiian shirts. Yes, it's bad ... so bad, it's good in a weird sort of way. I guess someone saw a niche they thought needed to be filled. :)

I love the fire hydrant picture.

I can't compete with the snow, but we did get 5 inches of rain... does that count?

Skype. Sweet technology. I've only read about it.

Nice pics, as usual. I like your style, TW.

Hey, can you do a post about how you arrived in Canada? I'd like to read about that. What events brought you there, what motivated you, that kind of thing.
