This n that

Well, I imagine we are headed into a recession. It's already touched me because one of our major clients has decided to cut back after lackluster holiday sales of their goods. English courses are always the first to go when money is tight, and poof after 2 and a half years there, we got the axe. Another company cut the number of classes in half. Oy. I'm going to have to hustle a bit more for work this year it looks like.

Oh and everyone wants a tuna noodle casserole recipe. Who knew? So easy. Boil 16oz of egg noodles for 8 minutes. While it's boiling, mix 12-14oz of tuna with a can of cream of mushroom soup and a cup of grated cheddar cheese. When the noodles are done, drain them and then mix them in with the tuna mixture. Put it all in a casserole dish and then sprinkle a cup of crushed up potato chips on top and stick it in the oven for 25 minutes at 350F.

Yesterday we started showing the apartment for rent. We only had one flake. Even though we tell people to please call us if they change their plans because we have to drive over to meet them, some people don't seem to care. Anyway, there were a couple of responsible people who showed up, but no takers. When we got home, the downstairs tenant came up to report his DVD player didn't work. He lives in a furnished unit. We got him a spare DVD player that we had and took his to tinker with it. You could hear something rattling around in there but the little drawer wouldn't open. After a few minutes of dicking around with it, it opened and there was the DVD Superbad inside. It must have belonged to the previous tenant who has returned to France. I was thrilled and forced Serge to watch it with me last night. He wanted to hate it, but he couldn't help laughing at it either.

Could you offer any one-on-one English courses, torn? Would that be worth your time? Just an idea.

Enjoy your Sunday. Extremely cold here in NC. We are only in the 30s here today and supposed to dip into the teens tonight!

I tried to be a landlord for a while when we moved from Raleigh to Blowing Rock (four ours away). It was a miserable experience as applicants would not show when I drove down to show the place, and when someone finally got in they felt the rent was an optional payment for them.

I proceeded to hire a management firm that tried to screw me further over than normal, fired them and tried selling the place again... it finally sold after 5 years this past Summer!! I swore and continue to abide by the pledge that I shall not have any rental property ever again.

Glad Serge enjoyed Superbad, I've yet to see it.

Thanks for posting the recipe. I'm going to make it today. Of course, me being me, I won't be able to resist jazzing it up a little ... fresh mushrooms, red peppers, toasted slivered almonds ... lol

My hubby has talked to several of the guys he used to work with in GP and he's so glad he got out of there. Tough times have already started in the manufacturing industry over a year ago. It's a reminder to all of us to tighten our belts.

I'm going to have to watch Superbad. Everyone's talking about it!

that is so funny... like kismit or something. You said just yesterday you wanted to watch it again, and blammo... it showed up.

Wish that could happen with the bigger things in life.

Oh, and I believe I was not one of the ones who asked for the recipe.

Ew. Tuna.

I hate fish.

Every time my Mom would open a can of tuna when I lived at home I would run out of the room. The smell, oh the smell!
It is 2 degrees above zero here today but the Sun is shining.
I so want to rent an apartment from you guys some day. Who knew that furnished included electronic Devices too? Ed

I love that "dicking around with it" piece. One of my favorite past times. As for the tuna, I can't do it. I think I did it one too many times growing up.

Money really must be "tight" if you are working the streets. Not to mention that you would be freezing your money maker off working Montreal's wintry streets. Maybe you should turn that rental suite into an "hourly" rental. You could at least stay warm.
This blog really will be about "Sticky" Crows.

Mama's secret for the Tuna Cass was a couple of dashes of nutmeg ... rox!

Yeah, things are kind of wavy here in Vancouver for ESL too. We have less manufacturing and such, but it's very slow at the private ESL puppy farms 'cause of the par loonie. I'm making the transition to government sponsored ELSA for immigrants and like it a lot. Pays better too.

If you DO have to hustle, will you travel?

I live in a state where unemployment is rapidly approaching 10 percent. The recession is here as far as I can tell.

Well, shit. I'm sorry to hear about the downturn affecting you. Really sorry. I'll bet it isn't helping with the funk. Poor little candle. (Boojie, boojie)

What I want to know is how Cooper gets his kids to eat red pepper and fresh mushrooms. I'm deeply jealous of that. Almond slivers? My kids react as if they are slivers of glass.

That is a drag about the cancellations. I wish you good new tenants and more people signing up for classes.

michigan's been in the crapper for years, economically speaking. and then assbush will say something like, "the economy is robust" and i'll mentally kick him in the nads again.

*sigh*

i need some tuna casserole to feel better. i'm gonna try the potato chips on top of my own thrown together recipe. this sounds great.

My parter dragged me to watch Superbad and I was so determined to hate it and not laugh once at it.

When the blood stain came I lost it completely...

Curses...

Thank God I can call off my search for the perfect tuna casserole recipe!

Sorry the economy is hurting your employment Torn. Hopefully the recession will turn out to be just a scare.

I'm putting "Superbad" into my Netflix queue.
